I wonder why Ingram still lists the Memphis location? Oh well... the thought of a much of anti-MSFT geeks running around south Memphis is still an entertaining thought. Not for them, of course.:)
Now all the rabid anti-MSFT activists will head to Memphis to find the Ingram Micro distribution center and disrupt shipments. Hopefully they will eat some BBQ and visit Sun Studios while they are in town (skip Graceland...other than the trophy room, it's overrated).
But it is good for archiving. They would have saved them a bunch of disk space and bandwidth if they would have saved the raw audio as FLAC. Not to mention that you can put some of the song information in the file as tags.
I would have thought so too, but apparently he couldn't. Knowing where he used to drive, it was probably a case of a 2 lane mountain road and a pack of cars stuck behind the truck.
I'm sure anyone doing DOS application development a couple decades ago would have loved a flat address space with 16MB of memory. Many applications used dynamic memory allocation then, so what's the problem with modern embedded applications? If you're getting lots of memory fragmentation, either the implementation of free() on the dev kit is broke (like it was with a version of Microsoft C in the late 80s), and/or you need to re-think the design of your application. I guess many programmers don't care much about memory usage anymore.
Bottles or jugs of urine wouldn't be that bad as the article portrayed it. Jugs full of tobacco spit on the other hand is nasty. Of course there is a downside of not spitting into a jug and letting it fly out the window. My grandfather practically painted the front of a VW bug brown on a trip when my uncle was a long haul trucker. The driver of the bug was stuck behind the truck for a few hours and couldn't avoid the spit coming out the passenger side window.
I dug around a bit and you're correct. It's a myth that many people keep repeating so they can claim we're committing war crimes every time a.50 cal is fired. The source of it seems to vary from as far back as WWII up to the Carter Admin. I guess the myth survives due to the peacenik rants and the "if it sounds so stupid, it's probably not true, unless a govt agency is involved" attitude. Thanks.
I think I read somewhere that 50 cal machine guns aren't supposed to be used directly against ground troops, but you can use it against vehicles. But 50 cal sniper rifles are OK. Who comes up with this???
If the amount of revenue was the same, a 6% margin would be worse than 9% one. However, they sell a lot more, so they end up making more due to volume. But as someone had posted on the comment section of the original article, Apple's stock growth has been a lot more than Dell's in that 8 year time span. So if you were an investor, Apple would have made YOU more money. Too bad I didn't have any money to invest in the mid to late 90s.:(
Mitsui is now making archival grade DVD-Rs. They are about $100 for a pack of 50.
TY is the best of the cheap CD-Rs. Mitsui are reported to the best, but the cost A LOT more. FWIW, they are made in Colorado Springs.

that sucks. too bad there wasn't a way to bypass the scanning of all the files.

I guess the helpdesk couldn't think of "rename the file to only use ASCII characters" or something similar. Probably not on their script.

I guess I won't be buying any new TV equipment

I guess it depends on what you're shopping for. If you have a better source for old computer equipment, please share it.
that's why I stopped worrying if I was ever going to get laid or not. It's not going to happen, so why fret about it?

That's why typed it.
so which would you rather have? temporary blindness caused by this or blasted by high pressure liquid manure?

but what smells better in the morning? white phosphorous or napalm?
Don't you mean Slim Whitman? His yodel killed those pesky Martians.
Are the millions killed in Stalin's purges a part of the big lie too?
Gnome has always run better than KDE on low memory/slow cpu machines for me.
What? You didn't see this coming the day that Novell bought Ximian?
