Did it ever cross your mind that the increase in price reflected the actual cost of providing the service was finally being factored in since it's not being subsidized like it was before?
I don't think people like comuting, but they would do that and live in surroundings that they can tolerate rather than being stacked in boxes with people that they loathe.
You don't think that it has anything to do with the fact that the diesel cars made by the American auto manufacturers in the 70s & 80s were sluggish noisy vehicles and turned the public off to the idea? When I've talked to VW sales people when looking at a TDI, it seems that they are still trying to fight the perception of diesel cars as demonstrated by GM's crapmobiles.
His point was that it's still going to produce CO2 which ends up in the atmosphere, but if the waste was disposed of normally it would stay as carbon based solids.
I was beginning to wonder when the article was going to get to the "caste system" part. It wasn't much more than what was on the slashdot front page. The rest of it was frothing at the mouth about the new "Google planetary system" due to their stock valuation. I guess Business Week doesn't get it that maybe they don't want to do any mergers because it would screw up the culture that they've created at Google.
The "FLAC will die soon too" part is quite flamebait-ish. Mirrors are not really necesary with so many copies of the source code for FLAC floating around.
I know that and you know that. Try telling that to the guys running the cylinder encoding project. I had asked them in an email why they weren't using FLAC, and that's basically the response I got.
There is no "mystique" about being a computer geek. That's an invention by those geeks who want to pretend that they aren't losers. If anyone actually looked at we did on a day to day basis, they would switch to the exciting past time of watching grass grow.
The SCA played a big part in destroying my marriage. It's members are all certifiable nutcases.
What?!? You can spend time around women at work and not get in trouble for sexual harrassment? I wouldn't attempt it because it would just be my luck that I'd get hauled in our equivalent of Catbert and fired because someone took a compliment the wrong way.
I got lots replies when I used one of these guys for my profile picture. Seriously, the reply rate compared to my normal picture was like 10:1. There's still some chick in Austin that's pissed that I won't return her email.
The monthly rates required to actually have an email 'converstation' with the person and you still never meet anyone. Remember they get to filter you out too.
But they don't want to save it in that format because they're unsure of how widely it's accepted and whether or not it will be around for long (shorten is dead, so flac will die soon too). I would think a local mirror of the flac site would put that to rest, but oh well.
he committed a Slashdot sin: reading the article before posting about it.
or bring along some liquid cold enough to force a color change.

They mine for oil & gas in the Gulf? Damn..that must be a messy job.
the government is composed of -- gasp -- citizens, not space aliens from Uranus.
having dealt with some of the local govt employees, I wouldn't be sure of that. Then let them leave.
You don't even know what my attitude is, so I'd say you are the one that should be confined.

So have you authorized the gas stations in your area to charge you twice as much as everyone else?
That depends on the Republican.
Every Canadian I've ever met has hated the Frenchies. Are they that damn annoying?
Depending on your views, it could also make things better.
A friend of mine from Poland said that he saw someone tear their Trabant to pieces in a fit of rage. It helped that the car was beginning to rot.

But seriously, what do you have to lose?
