I have all those things too and they are working just fine with a computer I built in 1998. However, how many new printers and PDAs use those ports and how many people actually use those ports on their new machines? I would guess a lot less now than in 2000. I just find it odd that it seems like the phase out of DB-25 serial to the DB-9 connector occurred over a shorter period of time than it's taking to get rid of the ps/2, parallel & DB-9 serial ports. Especially since keyboards & mice were some of the first USB products (that I can remember at least).
The USB standard was released in 1995. There was support in PC land, but it didn't really embrace USB until after the iMac. If you were a peripheral manufacturer and wanted some of Apple's tiny market share, you had to go USB. Even at the iMac introduction, the variety of USB peripherals sucked unless you wanted a keyboard or a mouse. Apple took the plunge and got everyone else who was standing on the edge just sticking their toes in the water to jump in after them. Why do new PC desktops and 3rd party motherboards _still_ come with 2 PS/2 ports, a parallel port, and a standard serial port, along with a collection of USB ports?
I wouldn't be worried that much about the speed that it cruises, just how it fast can accellerate to that speed. There are several cities where it would be about suicidal to try to merge into traffic with that car. You would get run over either by the oncoming traffic or by a pissed off motorist that's tired of waiting on the onramp behind you.
we had a Sun-3 that had an external drive chassis about the size of a small dishwasher. It must have originally been hooked up to a VAX or some other mini. It had removable platters and when it was very busy, it would rattle and shake a lot.
then how come we have all these 'submarine patent' companies that do nothing but file for and receive vague patents and then file lawsuits against others who have actually done the work to develop a product? I'd be curious how many of the recipients of patents for lightsabers (aka laser sword), for example, have actually created one or is it a scam to extract royalties from toy companies whenever a new Star Wars movie comes out.
b) they see this staff as a "cost center" and a drain on their profits since developers usually don't directly book profits
Some companies have realized that various IT related projects can have a positive impact on sales and factor that in when determining whether or not to fund the project. They have also realized that new coding done for the business can be classified as a capitalizable expense that could be spread of a few years instead of just one.
My dentist said that she doesn't have to use as much novacaine on me because I have a high pain tolerance. If that's due to high school football, I guess that's a good thing.
The seemingly trivial change of having a light colour roof can substantially reduce air conditioning requirements (although it can also increase heating requirements).
That depends on what was done when changing the roofing materials. For a couple summers when I was in college, I had a job as commercial roofer. We would rip off the layers of tar and rocks that had built up over the years. In its place, polyurethane foam insulation would be sprayed down and then coated with a thick rubbery paint. We would normally see a big difference in how much the A/C units were running before we were even 1/2 way done. The cost savings due to using less energy all year round usually paid for the roofing in a couple years.
To follow up on this, I saw a Chrysler commercial today with Lee Iacocca and it had his "If you can find a better car, buy it" slogan from the 80s. Sure it's a bit of marketing hubris, but it's still good advice and that's why you have many people buying imported cars.
Of course Apple is responsible for Apple's software, but you're complaining about how the applications deal with contexual menus. OS X has always supported multibutton mice and Tiger supposedly improves the keyboard and mouse preferences. That how 3rd parties could be "doing a great job of supporting the second mouse button" in the first place. If you don't like what Finder is doing, you can either stalk the Finder program manager until they include your suggestions, download a plugin, or learn how to do it yourself. I could complain that MSFT's desktop shell doesn't handle the middle mouse button like I think it should, but other applications can still use it. The same thing applies here. Don't blame the OS for something the applications aren't doing but could!
USB Overdrive is a replacement USB driver and from the website, it still looks like it's supported (just not as active as before since family comes first). If you have a Logitech mouse, you can also tweak it to do something similar.
The 'amount of computer' that you get for your money with a Mac is comparable with any top tier PC OEM. I have PCs (Dell, compaq, IBM) and Macs and IMHO, the Macs are generally built better. My 1997 era G3 runs OS X just fine. Sure, ones built prior to that won't run it w/o install hacks, but that was Apple's decision to orphan those machines. They run linux OK.
Macs use standard RAM and hard drives. Upgrading them is just like any other PC. I can take SDRAM out of one of my PCs and put it in my Beige G3 and it works perfectly. I can't remember if the memory in my Macs that use 30 or 72 pin SIMMs were interchangeable with PCs or not.
adding these features will in no way affect the people who have no second mouse button.
BZZZZT.
Wrong. All you have to do is hold down the mouse button for a couple seconds (not click and release) and the action that would be performed by right clicking is done. All you're complaining about is not enough controls that have something associated with that action. It's not Apple's (or MSFT's) fault if the developers don't use all the features of the OS they are writing programs for.
Would you willingly pay a few thousand dollars more for a car that is in every way equal to a foreign car
The problem is that the foreign car is often a better vehicle(more reliable, better mileage, better resale, etc), so the real question is: are you willing to make a bad personal economic decision in order to help someone else that you have no other dealings with? Too many people got burned by the shitmobiles of the 70s & 80s and the "buy Amuricun" slogan just rewarded the companies for making rotten products. That's a hard reputation to shake and Joe Sixpack would rather spend the weekends working on the car for fun, rather than doing it out of necessity.
It's interesting to compare the revenue and profits of the big automakers: GM, Ford, Daimler-Chrysler and Toyota. GM has significantly higher sales than any of them, but is about the worst when it comes to the bottom line. What's Ford doing right and what's GM screwing up?
and heaven help anyone else that thinks they can make money on something and not give MSFT a cut of it. Bill is going to be out on street corner begging for change with a little tin cup. all because he couldn't monopolize online music sales. boo-hoo.

with that 0-60 rating, it certainly won't find many buyers who have to travel on urban interstates.

Does the current process require that a functional prototype exist before a patent could be issued?

The cord length is probably due to Apple expecting users to plug this into their USB keyboard, not the computer.

The US also interned citizens of Italian and German origin too for the same reasons.
or just not give a damn anymore.

but with the mac mini, it's not as much of a major purchase as it was before. It's something that Jobs should have done a long time ago.

I suppose it depends on the hardware. I have a dual slot-1 based system (i840 chipset) that works just fine. IIRC, I bought it in 1997.
