  15. Windows Server 2003 Key Review... on Windows Key Leak Threatens Mass Piracy · · Score: 5, Funny

After spending several hours looking over this latest release from the 'Redmondian Army of Doom', I have mixed feelings about this key as a whole but I still find myself strangely attracted to a few of it's verses. It is as if parts of it were composed by choruses of lilting angels while other parts we're slapped together with the premediation of a four year old making mud pies. Lets take a look at this new key... verse, by haunting verse, shall we?

    C4C24-
What a stunning beginning! Almost symetrical, yet still off balance even with the repeating C's and 4's. The 2 was a discordant shocker at first, but the more I read over it, the more I found that it acted as a 'front porch', if you will, for the firmly concluding 4.

    QDY9P-
This is that "Mud Pie" verse that I alluded to earlier. After such a strong beginning with "C4C24", "QDY9P" is a total dissapointment. I think the problem here is the 9. The "QDY phrase is an intriguing start to this verse but the 9 just throws away any semblance of order.

    GQJ4F-
This is without a doubt, the most playful and funky verse in the key. The central "QJ4" is a sassy and taunting invocation of some well known classical themes which takes on a whole different tone when sandwiched between the "G" and the slightly naughty "F".

    2DB6G-
Probably the most memorable verse in this work, I kept humming "2DB", "2DB", "2DB", "2DB" to myself all afternoon. This cadence was a welcome change of pace and helped move this key back in the right direction toward the finale.

    PFQ9W
What a triumph! This final verse had me on the edge of my seat in anticipation as each new character played on the preceeding ones with a curious mixture of both lust and fury. The "PFQ" opening is both sensual and vulgar at once, but when blended into a "Q9W" clarion call, the effect is awsome and should stand as one of the great Windows Key verses of all time.

  16. How to End Spam and learn to play the flute, too on IBM Researcher Offers an E-Stamp Spam Solution · · Score: 3, Interesting

    .

To end Spam, you must "de-monetize" it.

To do this you must increase the bandwidth loading of the spammer's sponsor (the 'business' paying to have the spam sent) beyond tollerable levels. The only way to do this is with a distributed "insincere curosity attack".

To do this you must write a mail app plug-in that allows you to drop spam into an analyser bucket on your desktop. This analyser would parse the spam for URLs and toll free numbers in the body of the spam. This analyser then routes these "targets" out on to a peer to peer, gnutella style network. As soon as each peer in the network gets about, say, 20 or so copies of that same target submitted from other peers, then a small HTTP client would start making random requests to the target URL or toll free number. This would keep up until the target disapears.

Oh, and to play the Flute, you just blow across the little hole on the one end while moving your fingers back and forth on the outside of the tube.

This work could be all be done collectively by the nations teachers themselves, just like this good woman has done. This idea just needs a Corporate Sponsor or two to host the server space and bandwidth.

Placing restrictions upon any technology hobby in the name of "combating terrorism" is folly of the highest order and constitutes blindingly stupid public policy.

We face a future where people who hate us because of our freedoms can and will attack us at will with amazingly ordinary implements used in novel ways. Without marching out into the world and killing all of these people "pre-emptively", our only realistic option is to improve our remote sensing (intelligence) technologies to find them before they become real, active threats. But developing these technologies is real hard work, involving cutting edge sciences and technologies... and having the largest possible national crop of young people exited about science is absolutely essential to our future national security.

I am a software engineer today BECAUSE of my early experiences with model rocketry and model airplanes and because they taught me how things worked and fired my imagination about what could be possible in the future.

We've heard NASA lament lately about how hard it is becoming to find qualified graduates to staff even entry level engineering and science positions. Public policies that throttle modeling technology hobbies will only exacerbate this problem into the future and good people will die needlessly as a result.
