The website describes services based on owning/renting a physical machine, at prices appropriate for corporate use or 'swiss bank account' private use.
Are there any plans to operate marginally less secure systems sharing the data of several customers and used for anything from Freenet repositories to napster directories and POP servers ? Or would you prefer to sell complete servers to ASP operaters for this sort of subdivided resell ?
But you don't want to use a different browser profile (especially for things like proxies) according to what dialup you used - that should be handled by the dialup system itself along with routing and DNS.
How about a local proxy that has it's upstream proxies set by the dialup script ?
But how are they going to back down - will Sony claim it's not much better than anything else, or the government say they made a mistake and it's crap after all ?
Why should ISPs monitor Usenet traffic ? If this case requires someone to remove a posting when they're informed of it, they only have to respond to such information - not actively seek out defamation.
I agree that a company has a right to use its trademark in the commercial domain.
But I don't see why that implies a right to use its trademark in the non-commercial domain, especially where its trademark is a word with other legitimate owners, such as McDonalds or MP3.
It's not '1000 mhz', it's 1000 MHz. 1GHz is more correct still. 1000 mhz isn't in any accepted units at all, and 1000 mHz is 1000 x 0.0001 Hz, which is a very silly way to express 1Hz.
Surely slashdot readers understand that case is significant!
If all the TVs in the USA show T-W media, delivered via AOL, that's a huge customer base for whatever OS a display unit runs. It doesn't have to be Linux to hurt Microsoft : if ATW choose to use Windows, the deal they cut will screw Microsoft to the floor, because ATW doesn't have to take it any other way.
Never mind the longer term.. once the stock market figures out the implications of the AOL deal instead of gut-buying technology shares, won't Microsoft stock sink pretty fast ?
From some points of view, keeping those people from achieving anything is a pretty succesful strategy. Unfortunately for them, they're snobs : they haven't worked out that academics make things possible, but engineers make them happen.
Think what would have happened if they'd hired RMS and LT 10 years ago.
Doesn't that agreement text mean RIAA has no case ? If they expect that CSS could be broken by 'a professional..' then they can't reasonably prosecute someone for breaking it, especially since once it's broken it stays broken for everyone (unlike a theft where each unit has to be separately stolen, probably by a different 'professional').
No, the right thing would be to conform to the existing standard rather than extend it in some arbitrary way.
Documenting that arbitrary extension is helpful, but requesting an extension through the original authors would be a great deal better.
Compact Cassettes were invented by Philips, too.
Copyright is dead. Get used to it.

It seems SI IS that tough to understand ..
300 milli is 300 x 10e-3, or 0.300.

There already is one - see : PrettyPark and ExploreZip
Do you open attachments when they appear to be from people you DO know - like people who had you in their address book, for instance.
.. and claimed that victims received the email virus largely from people they didn't know.
Since the virus propagates using Outlook's contact list, this seems a bit unlikely - I received over 100 copies, every one from cow-orkers.
This suggests that the journo didn't ever see one himself, and certainly didn't understand it.
For UK users, REMAP offers a similar custom-built aid service to VME. There are branches in most areas.
I agree - sounds like a good marketing ploy.
But how are they going to back down - will Sony claim it's not much better than anything else, or the government say they made a mistake and it's crap after all ?
Wish they'd ditch the frames, too - Half the screen lost to toolbars and title doesn't leave much room for readable text.
So hit the advertisers : inform them that you're boycotting their product because of their patronage of the Pink Paper.

shapecfg allows traffic shaping based on IP address - is that the sense in which you mean that the bandwidth allocated to a user can be controlled ?
Or is there some tool that will shape traffic differently for users on the same box ?
Given that the apparent domain name owner didn't contest the transfer, 'a matter of weeks' seems incredibly slow.

It might be particularly annoying to those using the ARM chips - ARM countered Intel's 'Intel Inside' campaign with 'ARM Powered'.
..
So is a PDA with Wince and Arm (like one of the HP Jornadas) 'ARM Powered' or 'Windows Powered' ?
This re-use of someone else's ad campaign also suggests that Microsoft's marketing department can't innovate, either
Does this include the computers used by Australians, or just those owned by Australians ?
And computers belonging to Australians who are not currently in Australia ?
For instance, Australians working with defence contractors for other governments ?
If a minor can't legally license software, what
do games companies put in their EULAs ?
If they contain no such clause, then might they be non-binding on minors ? So minors can legally break the EULA terms and copy the game ?
