  1. Re:Gigabit ethernet versus firewire on IP over Firewire Updated · · Score: 1

A friend and I thought it would be cool to have an airport station with a single wire, (firewire 800) that would send both data and power to help reduce cable clutter. We concluded it would have to be firewire 800 due to the cable length constraints of firewire 400 even though it's a bit of overkill the geek factor would be high.

  3. Re:Intel designed motherboard? on Canterwood Motherboards Refined · · Score: 1

The one thing I can say about intel motherboards from my experience they are among the most stable. I've had many other asus, msi via based motherboards that all seemed to wig out on me at one point or another. It could just be bad luck, but I've never had any significant reset-the-bios-with-a-jumper type problems with an intel board.

  6. Re:Same price, fewer costs on Review of iTunes Music Store · · Score: 1

There are still associated costs to develop, deliver and maintain content. It has simply become more efficient. I'm sure Akamai is picking up where the delivery company with thousands of trucks left off, and the cd packaging company has been replaced by coders and admins that keep the cogs greased in their end of the music machine. It's akin to moving food around on your plate to make it look like less. It's mostly all still there.

  7. Re:Still kinda expensive... on Apple Introduces iTunes Music Store, iTunes 4, new iPod · · Score: 1

They dont have to worry about Shoplifting CDs adding the security stuff. It would be good for both sides at that price.

They only have to worry about development costs and delivery costs and maintainance costs and whatever it costs to get 5 major labels to agree to you using their catalog. Yeah it's a slam dunk at 50 cents...

I consider myself a power user. I've run various unix-like operating systems and Windows of course before switching over to a mac. I have to say that now I notice UI inconstancies more often when I need to use windows for something. Often times I think "Now what do they really mean by the dialogue box?", maybe using the Mac has dumbed me down or maybe it really is more consistent.

OSNews is excellent at creating and fostering the biggest troll articles I've ever read. Most of the stuff that gets posted there has a distinct bitching aspect, the head reviewer there (and article author) used to port BeOS apps and her husband worked for BE directly, I wonder why BeOS was on the list at all? The authors often look at the tech world through their entitlement goggles. That being said, I don't visit osnews anymore because of the ratio of subjective nonsense to valid concerns.
