Using open source is not the same as embracing it however. Redhat embrace open source. Apple use it. Microsoft use it too, believe it or not. Have they embraced open source? And guess what, they're free to do so. You don't give someone something under certain conditions and then bitch when they actually take it. They're still abide by the conditions set forth and that's all they have to do. Apple isn't in the make the world a better place business, they're in business to make money. Be thankful that by all accounts they've taken an incomplete rendering engine with a relatively small and clean codebase and will help turn it into a respectable one that Apple users and Linux users will both benifit from.
What if they took that huge recruiting budget and instead raised pay for soldiers. I think I'd rather have more money than a guy telling me how much I'll get for college should I choose to go, over and over. If they were to pay like the private sector I think a lot more people would consider joining up.
The zdnet/cnet guys give apple such a browbeating it's no wonder apple doesn't do much pr work. It's really sickening that whatever ubiquitous dogma is popular among journalists seems to stay that way without these guys so much as making a phone call to see if what they're writing even holds water. It's less and less about news and more about editorials there every day.
Right... There's a soccer mom picking up her kids in a big giant suv that GWB made her buy. This is about our collective dependance on oil. Don't like what Ford is pawning off as an electric car? Blame Ford, the current standards for what constitues a "Car" are probably not much more than that golf cart either but you don't see them wasting any time on turning out ex(plorers\scursions) like they were going out of style. The first company that makes a serious mass market attempt will probably succeed provided infrastructure supports it.
Lets all thank timothy for posting something he thought was cool but had no earthly idea if it was true or not. Come on, not even a url? At least correct the headline or something. Weaksauce.
But, wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to buy a PC and install Linux.
Run photoshop, dreamweaver|flash|director, logic and microsoft office at a reasonable speed and stability in linux out of the box. I dare you. If you dont need any commercial applications you must be living in some sort of cave or crazy commune.
The parent post was just illustrating that osx does nearly all the things people like about free unix-like operating systems.
itunes has the older widgets still. Calculator, isync, ical and address book have the newer widgets. I also noticed right clicking produces snappier menu's too, for instance if you have your applications folder in the dock and right click on it, just seems a little quicker after the update.

It's obvious the "Aliens" at the end were mecha, look at the logo of the company that creates David. It's blatantly foreshadowed several times and at three different points in the movie that the company vision of the future was right in the logo. I have to dissagree with the ending though, the one more day with Mom thing just felt out of place. Weaksauce.
It would be cool if there were a highly rugged inexpensive tablet that could replace textbooks. No need to worry about notes in the margins and the like.
Everyone brings up that McDonalds case these are a few words from a friend of a friend that was actually involved in the case. While this was not 100% McDonalds fault they do share a burden of the blame for what happend.
For example, the structural integrity of a McDonalds cup is substantially decreased when it is filled with hot coffee. It is meant to be used with the top on it to reduce spilling and keep the cup in the proper form. Like many other people, the woman took the top off to let it cool down. By doing this she made the walls of the coffee cup much weaker. She didn't actually spill the coffee; the cup collapsed when she took it out of the cup holder. Before you laugh, consider that McDonalds deliberately created a low cost coffee cup with weak walls. It was argued that if the integrity of the cup was compromised by taking the top off, then the top should be fixed in place. Or, the walls of the cup should be thicker.
This would be like the heat sink on a laptop melting through the case due to poor and or frugal engineering. Deliberate intention to create a lower cost product without reguard for the safety of the person using it.
Yeah, Sun is known for all the great single processor machines they make and openbsd is known for it's great smp support. It's a match made in heaven. I'm sure there are people lining up to run openbsd on one of the 106 processors in the sunfire 15k and sun is turning them away. Oh the horror.
If they end up collecting the money, more power to them. I mean that's great but there are probably tons of other worthy projects that could also use the ten bucks. Blender is in the unique position of being the only 3D modeling tool of it's caliber freely available for linux, windows etc. However pepper doesnt fill the editor niche like, blender fills the 3D modeling niche. I can name probably ten decent editors where I can name but one 3D tool. While they're waiting to collect the money, maybe they can take up learning vim or emacs as a hobby.
I dunno, the opensource community really needs another text editor. If things continue they way they have been for the past year we'll have to file for chapter 11. If only we had just one more text editor to save the day.
The IBM documentation for the 970 states a 900Mhz bus for an 1800Mhz chip.

This same effect can be seen today in the dvd market.

I've got a few class A rackmount avalon audio preamps that make my pc's powersupply look like a honda hybrid.

That reminds me of the scene in wargames when the tour group enters through the obscenely thick door. Ironic to the point of insane.
Clearly M$ has decided to secretly break all other mail programs besides Outlook

Should be interesting to note that apple also owns this domain.
Well at least we dont have to wonder who's getting first post. ;]
Maybe it also explains his aversion to contractions.

All the ubiquity of xml with none of the bitter aftertaste!
Turns out it was an alien-turkey race who have come to exact their revenge.

I liked it better the first time when it was called turner and hooch.
