All of these religions are recognized by some people, while others think the whole religion is full of it. Just because a few government officials don't think that 'Jedi' counts as a religion doesn't mean that it's NOT a religion.

On a side note, it's not like even following the 'Jedi Code' would get one locked up! As far as I can tell, Christianity and 'Jedism' would follow extremely similiar belief systems. Nobody (well, a very small minority) would say that Christianity encourages bad things- murder, rape, etc. Jedism wouldn't either. If I lived in Australia you can bet I'd put Jedi!

P.S.- In America denying someone the chance to put down their religion, whatever it is, would be unconstituational.. is something like this the case in Australia?

I've seen someone mention putting it in foam or something like that... That might work, but wouldn't it still bounce a little? If the foam is even relatively stiff the player will just bounce with the car.

What about using the foam in one of these pillows to cushion it. Also, put it in a case attached to two wires so it can swing back and forth when the car hits a bump... I saw cup holders like this once. The drink wouldn't spill because they swung back and forth and stayed level... at least most of the time.

Hopefully those measures would stop most skipping.

This means that as time goes on more and more politicans will "speak the language" to a certain extent. Heck, kids know more about computers then many adults, and as they grow up and become politicans then we will have MANY tech-savvy reps running around on Capitol Hill.

If this group holds a copyright then the law can't be disseminated properly.

This seems like a common sense thing- you just CAN'T do it- but the way America's legal system works they probably have an illogial leg to stand on.

If I create a work of art, let's call it a painting, it would be creative. If a machine creats an orginial painting, not based on variations of others, then it is creative. However, because the machine was programmed to do this it isn't intelligent. Some people may be wondering if because of the programming, the machine isn't even creative- it's only following programming, right? Wrong. The computer is RANDOMLY generating values to put in the program. So without the computer the art wouldn't exist- creativity. But without the intelligence behind the computer the art wouldn't have been created, so no intellignce for Aaron. Sorry.

  8. Bigger Changes- Last 50 or Next 50 Years? on Miracles Of The Next Fifty Years, As Of 1950 · · Score: 1

This sorta reminded me of the last space odyssey book, takes place in the year 3000. One of the things that struck me was how Clarke talked about the massive technological changes between the years 1000 and 2000 and the years 2000 and 3000. He said the difference was greater between the first two- someone from 1000 AD would be lost in our society, while someone from 2000 AD in 3000 would be awestruck, but not overwhelmed. He didn't forsee any new changes in the nature of technology that would cause one's head to explode (figuratively speaking of course), while a person from 1000 to 2000 would be struck dumb by the advent of electricity.

    I digress.

My question was, do you think that the last 50 years have brought greater change then the next 50 will? My guess is no. I think that the next 5 decades will bring revolutions to our world... First, non-technologically speaking, true world peace will break out. Not the worrying about what small country with an insane military leader has nuclear weapons, but no fighting at all (and no Cold Wars, and no "incidents" like with China). Second, new power sources will be utilized. I don't mean that nuclear power will be widely utilized, but that completely new power sources will discovered- or theoretical sources will be opened. Third, we will have "space elevators" constructed out of the bucky tubes -I think that's the name- which are super strong albeit at the moment incredibly tiny tubes. Fourth, computers will undergo a development equal to the evolution from ENIAC to the current PC.

    Anyone else have ideas? Comments?

  10. My expieriences as a student... on Technology vs. Cheating at the University of Virginia · · Score: 1

This is in response to many posts, probably off-topic, but who cares? Not me.

Group projects are almost invariably the worst kind. First, people who are bright will sometimes band together to preserve a grade. Recently I did that on a project that counted a LARGE amount. Amazingly enough (not sarcasm) we TWO against groups of FIVE AND SIX got higher grades. 100s to be exact.

People will now be saying, "what's your point? You're an idiot. Go away." And things of this nature. Be quiet.

My point is, we both shared work equally, finished it well ahead of schedule, and put other people to shame. We graded each other for a portion of the grade (both getting full marks) and actually deserved the A. Other people obviously gave people 10s to preserve friendships. If you had to choose between giving an idiot friend an A and losing that friendship what would you do? Give the A of course.

That is reason 1 why group projects suck.

    Reason 2 is:
If you happen to be in a group with an idiot, what will happen to the work load split between you two, three, etc.? It will shift from them to you because you want to get a good grade. You don't want them to screw up the project. I was also recently in a group with a couple of morons. It sucked. While we didn't have to grade each other, we did have to *work* together. This is what followed:

One guy did a good job, he had his stuff in, and while it wasn't *great* it was decent enough that our grade would stay the same. The other guy procastinated, got all his sources from the internet- this doesn't seem bad, but when only 1/2 can come from here this put me in a position to FIND MORE BOOKS! You can't imagine how unbelievably pissed off I got about that. He ended up giving it to me- unformatted like we had said beforehand- the day it was due and it looked awful. I want to do various and malicious things to his dog. (Just kidding guys, calm down.)

In both these instances the thing that makes groups bad is the other people. I took a long time getting there, but I don't care. It's late and I'm rambling- learn to deal with it. If the other person is an idiot or won't do work, you're screwed into getting bad grade or doing their f--king work. Either way you lose. If you happen to work with somebody as intelligent as you then other people will get pissed off. (I forgot to mention how people screamed, "unfair, how come they get to work together!!" as we told the teacher who was in our group.)

This post summed up into one sentence: groups suck, teachers: assign individuals projects to assess individual skills or assign different projects to different people, grouping them by ability and giving the assignment accordingly.

    Omerna- out.

With this amount of money they have to stop any cheating or else the event will be a joke and nobody will host big money events.

Maybe they could let you personalize it a little by giving options before hand as to which mouse, keyboard, and maybe monitor size (though they'd probably put a cap on the size at 17" or 19" or something).

It's a vicious rumor to keep people from taking CS, etc, in college and to push them into other fields. I'm not fooled, I'm going to be a CS guy and then go knock on a few doors and get some stock options, six-figure salary, and then drink champagne and code a few lines while laughing at the people who believed this.

Just kidding. Actually, I guessed this would happen at some point. With people reading about the above lifestyle in the news (massive stock options, work 3 hours a day to become a millionaire) many morons were bound to think they deserved a piece of the action. I don't know but I'm guessing that many people now aren't "cut out" to be a programmer. They just decided to make easy money, so they rushed through college, ready for people to throw money at them. Soon, people will probably stop rushing into CS. People who *like* to code will be doing it, and as long as you're good, jobs will be there. I plan to be good.
(I've taught myself some VB, and I'm working on C++ and planning to take a course at a nearby college this summer. As a *young* highschooler.)

By my logic, this means I can be a programmer and still get money thrown at me (or at least jobs). Cross your fingers for me.
