  1. Time for a visit on Windows 10 Fall Creators Update to Arrive October 17 (thurrott.com) · · Score: 3, Insightful

Just great. On 17 october I will have to go to all my relatives to fix their computer because of this untested crap update.

    Thanks Microsoft.

CLAIRE: Oh, we have both kinds -- country and western.

  4. Wouldn't it be simpler to just prosecute the corrupt officials for corruption? I mean how complex could it be? One undercover agent and then rinse repeat that for a few months until everyone is to scared to take bribery because they don't know if the traveler is an agent. Problem solved.

  6. People who buy DJI are idiots on DJI Spark Owners Must Update Firmware By September, Or Their Machines Will Be Bricked (suasnews.com) · · Score: 1

When I bought my drone I looked into various manufacturers and types including DJI and saw that buying a DJI was a recipe for disaster. You don't want to become slaved to the manufacturer with forced updates and requiring Internet connection and other silly stuff. This can seriously hinder your usage of the drone just when you need to use it, not to mention what will happen when the company goes broke. Bye bye drone.

So I bought a chinese drone instead with no "no-fly zone" garbage and no forced updates of any kind. It uses generic lipo batteries and I can use whatever camera I want. I just turn it on and it flyes with no problems.

  10. First things first. Start with the cargo planes, run them unmanned for some decades without a single failure. Only after that then can we talk about passenger flights.

  11. So in order to get the update that works even if your phone is full the only thing you need is a update to your phone that is already full?

It really seems that they didn't even know about the hidden printer dots which everyone (and I mean everyone) has known about for the last decades. Everyone at the Intercept should be fired and not ever work as a journalist again. This is just really really stupid. Even if you didn't know about the printer dots, sharing the documents with NSA is just mindboggling. Everyone should be fired.

  15. The answer on Ask Slashdot: What Is Your View On Sloot Compression? (youtube.com) · · Score: 1

    No.

This is basically mathematically impossible. The problems is that even though fractals, random generators or any other formula that can produce every possible combination of output for some input, for example if you can find the value x for f(x) = y where y is the resulting file.In theory you only need to store x to generate the whole file. The problem is that you either end up with having to search through almost infinite space of numbers which means it takes the age of the universe to compress a single file or if you find the correct number x it is always larger than y making the whole thing useless.

What Sloot likely had was an algorithm that was specially designed for some limited input of files, which the algorithm could reproduce from very small input since most of the input was stored in the codec itself. This is usless because the algorithm can't handle general files.

Also any statement that says that the algorithm can always compress any input is false by definition. Because if that was true you could just re-compress the output until you end up with a single byte, which obviously wouldn't work unless there where only 256 distinct files in the whole world.

  22. The problem on Why Elon Musk Doesn't Like Flying Cars (yahoo.com) · · Score: 3, Insightful

The problem with flying cars is... well they are flying. Which means they are in the air over our heads all the time. When a normal car malfunctions it is only traveling in two dimensial space and on a designated road, which means the damage is minimal given the cirumstances. When a flying car malfunctions he will not only crash into other flying cars in the same two dimensial space he will also fall in the third dimension and on other flying cars below him creating a cascading disaster and they will fall onto buildings, bridges, schools, stadiums e.t.c.

The only way flying cars will be a reality is that if they are treated exactly like airplanes, with all the pilot training, monitoring and security measures that comes with that or they will have their own "sky roads" which they follow, but in that case the point of flying cars are greatly reduced.

You should always make sure you get the manager response in writing. Just tell him to either send his response in an email and then archive this email or log his response to the bug report ticket and notify. Because when the shit hits the fan you will always be blamed, unless you can point to an actual written statement saying otherwise. If you just say "The manager told to me to ignore it", he will just reply "I don't remember saying that".

Everyone else is covering their asses so you should also otherwise it's your ass.
