Let's give it a year. I'd love to see an "online music store" year in review next December. Who will stand and who will fall?
Apple.
No one can hope for anything better than breaking even on their music store, not when they are selling songs for 99 cents. Walmart will be even less profitable than most services. Apple has said that iTunes is just a loss leader to sell iPods. People are buying iPods. People aren't buying Dell DJ's or Gateway Music DJ's or whatever those Napster players are called.
I disagree. I spent days trying to get peng to work last summer on my old thinkpad running suse 7.2. It majorly sucked. Besides the software being in French, it wouldn't progress beyond the second or third step in the initial configuration. memory is a little fuzzy on the program, but suffice to say that program/setup is reason enough to never, ever give up my [new] dsl, no matter how much it costs
A couple of G5s and iSight cameras. They really are quite fun to play with.
i dunno, they are fun, but only at the apple store. my favorite thing is to go to my local apple store & fire up the rendezvous list in ichat. every computer in the store shows up, & i can scare the hell out of people on the other side of the store. 'that's a weird commercial. that guy looks kinda familiar...'
It's very nice that there could be an alternative too Intel/AMD, but this product is simply to expensive.
Transmeta is like the Green Party. In 2000, neither the presidential candidate from either of the two major parties was terribly attractive. Nader, on the other hand, had some good ideas. Then again, was it really worth voting for him? It was impossible for him to get elected.
This sounds just like W.E. DuBois' book 21 Balloons. In the book, the secret society living on Krakatau has an emergency escape airlift that consists of a large platform, large enough for 20 families, lifted by 20 balloons. The only trouble was landing it...
The doctor, who is, for all intents and purposes, not there
No, he is not there, but he is not at the controls. Who was at fault for the Valdez oil spill? r>The captain was in charge and he was bui (boating under the influence). He did not actually throw the oil overboard himself but when he steered the boat into the reef, he caused the oil to spill.
The scientists will be at the helm of the robots so if anything goes wrong, they will have to take the rap and they will have to defend themselves in court when someone sues for malpractice.
windows took over before anyone realized what was really happening and now, even those who know better are too dependent, financially & otherwise, on those who don't know enough to care.
me I have an old P60 running red hat 6 & a thinkpad PII running SUSE, but my only computer with internet access is the shared windows machine
Microsoft's superior Windows Media Audio
So a closed source, proprietary format that defaults to a lower bitrate is superior?
that was just flamebait, but seriously, that's quite claim. i certainly think that AAC is superior, it just doesn't have as much industry support.

Apple is presumably making a good deal of money on their $99 replacements
at least $50, including the service fees. that's how much the battery (sans installation) costs here.
I have before, it's not too hard at all

I voted for him...
M$ OS's have all been inferior to Linux, yet they cost infinitely more. Some things just don't make sense...
I almost wish that M$ could raise prices, so as to drive more users to Linux or OSX.

I also hate AOL and I wish to collect AOL installation disks. I have 768 so far, and I want to reach 1,000,001.

Its the establishment keeping me down
I say "Let's migrate to Linux"
they say "We already own Windows"
I say "Linux is better"
they say "Windows is cheaper: we already have it"

"it shouldn't bump getting run over by a llama off your list of worries"
in fact, you are more likely to be hit by an asteroid than be affected by this "crisis"
wait a minute...
