Several aspects of the extreme people in the republican party would be easily considered fascist. The republican party's use of propaganda is unmatched by any other party in the US. They've used nationalism to the extreme since 9/11. The increasing power of the religious right is also making it so that they put the interests (or rights) of the state (or society) above those of the individual.

it's important to remember that no country will be 100% catagorizable. It's unlikely that we'll see another fascist country like italy again. Labels fit existing and former governments and wont be 100% accurate on future ones.

No amount of saying that it's unlikely is going to be sufficient. There needs to be proof that the election was accurate. People believe in absurd things ranging from ghosts to UFOs to magic to angels, it's going to take more than a logically convincing arguement to convice most people. If the election results can't be verified, then there really is a serious problem with the method, whether the results are accurate or not.

Most christians don't have a problem. However, the number of fundamentalists is growing in the USA, and they are a problem. They prey on people who can't deal with the real world, have never learned any critcal thinking skills or developed any form of skepticism. These are people who claim to be persecuted in the USA, they are victims, and their religious groups give them a sense of community. They are members of a cult, and one that is rapidly growing with people who can't deal with modern society. In return, the leaders of this cult make millions of dollars and get tremendous political power.

This leads to another problem, non-christians think that the fundies represent all christians, that all christians are fascist-like who would murder anyone who disagrees with them. Of course, that affects all religions -- a segment will always use it to prey on the weak minded.

  11. Re:Unpopular consideration... on India Outsourcers Find Back Door in Canada · · Score: 2, Informative

First, I agree that eventually things will even out. And, hopefully, interconnected economies and cultures will do wonders for peace. However, the cost of outsourcing to some americans is greater than you might think and it should be no surprise many are upset. $40K per year isn't a fortune over here and if I only made $30K, I'd qualify for multiple types of government assistance.

What does it cost per month for rent? What is the monthly food budget for a family of 5?

Obviously, in the US rent (or mortgage) will vary depending on where a person lives, but for most middle class people, it'll be between $500 to $1500 per month. Food will be at least $500/month for a family. Tack on at least another $500 in other expenses such as utilities and we're at a $1500 to $2500 per month, or $18K to $30K per year without even considering clothing or medical costs. At a minimum, tack on another $5K/yr. We're now at $23K/yr to $35K/yr. The poverty line for a family of 5 in the US is $22K/yr, so I'm not talking about an extremely rich lifestyle here. We haven't even touched discretionary income or the cost of a car.

This is why many americans are so upset. Its not that they're tired of being extremely rich, its that there's a lot of people who are already having a hard time getting by and losing even $10K per year makes a big difference. While most americans might be richer than most people in India, most are no where as rich as they appear on TV.
