Let's face it, driver support in Linux is ok for things like word processing, surfing the web, and playing media files. Outrageous frame rates so you get that genuine 'blood in the face' experience? Not happening.
Valve had L4D2 running better under Linux than Windows, and on NVidia hardware too. Decent framerates are not impossible.
But that's the same as any LiveDVD. If the attacker has physical access to the computer, there's not much you can do (apart from full-disk encryption, obviously).
But you can fix it. I muck my box up at least once a month, but it's never bad enough that a reinstall is the only solution. Unless the shell or compiler get damaged, I can just rebuild everything, and have it running smoothly within a day or two. How do I fix my Windows install if explorer.exe breaks itself?
Also, portage never forces me (or even asks me) to reboot. Never. It seems every time Windows updates itself, I have to tell it to shut up until I'm ready to reboot.
There are non-lethal methods of self-defence. My point was that lots of people from other countries don't need protected gun ownership. Sorry if I seemed trollish, I'm just not from anywhere that dangerous.
Because if you don't have that right, you are not a free man, you are a subject. And as such, your rights and your life can be taken at any time the people who are your masters decide to. This is not theoretical. See Apartheid. See a hundred other things like that and worse.
See Ghandi.
Sorry if I came off as a troll, but I didn't grow up American. I see what you mean, but also don't understand why people can't just gradually move on. Yes, people will be violent, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it takes violence to resolve it.
Sorry again, it seems there is a culture chasm.
Right, thanks! I didn't mean to come off as a troll, but guns aren't such a big thing in Australia (at least the part I live in). Thanks for answering the question, sorry if it was phrased badly.
I don't understand why gun ownership should be a "right". They only exist to kill or wound people - hunting excepted. Could an American give an explanation of why they are so necessary?
From what I've been told silverlight is pretty damned powerful, after all it'd have to be to make an entire OS in a browser. I'd love to see someone try to hack something that impressive together with just JavaScript!
I'm sorry, you are wrong. Unix-types have been sharing data between "programs" since they began - a pipe does exactly the same thing, except with flexibility.
Windows share sounds like a crippled way to "share rich data", when a file works so well.
Pretty sure the project itself just uses the character for the appearance. From what I know of it, it's just pronounced like the English word "love", without any particular accent.
The GIMP is a bit dodgy, yes; OpenOffice looks terrible, but DON'T use Word.
(La)TeX is unbelievably better, and if you want a GUI, LyX is great. These are programs that are used professionally, and are orders of magnitude better than the ugly junk that is Microsoft Word.

After all of the accusations of vapourware, it's nice that they're actually making these.

That battle was lost many decades ago, if it even got fought.
As an Australian English speaker, the second clause just sounds ugly, and I would say "if it was even fought". Both are correct.

How about an actual, in-wide-use, open source OS? bellard.org/jslinux/
I can't think of anything more personal than my mobile phone! I don't get out much...

What about Pokémon Snap? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pokémon_Snap I can imagine the tag-line: "War crimes! Gotta catch 'em all!"
