yes it's out. And Internet explorer is in.

I'm sorry to see it, but netscape has:
    1. Too much loading time.
    2. Too many things I don't need.
    3. Too much "designish" thingies that disturbs a clean interface.
    4. Did I say too much loading time? :P

  2. I agree with you on Tim Willits Interview: Lead Doom3 Designer · · Score: 1

I've been playing CS (counter-strike) for some time now, and I must say that every new high-tech game I've tried I've ended up deleting. They are all too complex, and they was no fun playing in multiplayer-mode. There was so many things that players could hide behind. Also, they seem to lack realistic movement, even if they have good graphics.

It seems like every game tries to look good on pictures, and developers put zero time in building a good gameplay.

I remember the game Stunt Car Racer on Amiga 500. The models sucked and the environment looked like h*ll. But still it was one of the best racing physics I've ever played in a game.

I suggest game programmers look into some older games and learn from then, instead of looking at fancy rendered 3d graphics and say "hey, let us program that realtime!"

  3. It's far from being over on Sigma Designs/XVid Update · · Score: 5, Interesting
Doom9 is an independent "journalist" that seem to have a very good overview at things in the encoding scene. Here is a sniplet from what he writes:

"First an update on the XviD situation. The release of the Sigma source code does not mean it's all over, it's far from being over. The license agreement which you have to agree to before you can download, and install the codec is not compatible with the GPL. Furthermore, it can now clearly be seen (download the source code and have a look for yourself) that the Sigma codec is pretty much a copy of the XviD codec, but all the copyright notices of the original developers have been removed and replaced. This does not only violate the GPL but copyright laws - you can't just take a program, change a few lines and change the copyright statements, you only have copyright protection for the parts you wrote on your own. And related to this the Sigma codec also contains code taken from the OpenDivX project, the files were outfitted with 2 different copyright notices which is quite funny."

I hope that Sigma will respect GPL licences. I will for sure stop every purchase of Sigma stuff where I work.

  6. The next step on Will CGI Collapse the Hollywood Economy? · · Score: 1

I believe the next step would be that people no longer watch movies, but are joining in (logging on to a service) and are becoming their own director of a movie, in some kind of computer game or similar (mass-roleplay or whatever). If something really exiting happened, the on-line service will analyse the data and sell the REPLAY (of what happened) to the world as a "movie". Still, this would be the next step for making movies more and more interactive, and finally I guess some people may dedicate their lives to services like this.

In other words, we will see a big MERGE, where Movies/hollywood will meet the game-companies. I think this merge may be comparative to the computer and telecom merge that is taking place right now.

I am both sorry and happy about this. Happy because it will make a more thrilling life for people that take part in these big on-line services, and sorry because they will lose their real-life. I know several people that allready "live" for EverQuest, Counter-Strike and Anarchy Online. I fear for their future.

I almost laughed at this stupid scene.

If he was as scary as Darth Vader I might agree that we really needed to get justice for all his evil.. Lucas, you hear me? Withdraw Episode 2 and make it scary as hell. Then you can cut heads and stuff!

Now back to topic. Why can't users use root all the time? Every time I have to do changes on my Linux box I have to use a root-user, thus I use root almost every day. It sux, and I've started using root as my primary login. Ofcoz I could do a rm -R / * or similar, but guess what? I don't care!

It's all about functionality and user experience. Security people can just "stfu" coz they just disable the most used features at your computer.

They have found their virtual world that in the end might be too real. When you e.g. loose friends in this virtual world, the road to suicidal thoughts might be very easy - especially if one have lost many friends and family in the real life.
