I am so glad we now know Foxconn is so nice. Those employees who live in Foxconns worker camps and jump off buildings are probably just depressed that one day they would have to retire.

Seriously- the show was a fraud- but that doesn't mean Foxconn is good. I really don't know- but evidence probably points towards it not being an ideal utopia. The reason Foxconn isn't pursuing legal action is probably because they know it would end up exposing a bunch of bad stuff that really does happen resulting in more bad PR.

There has been mathematical studies on how long irregular verbs might survive in the English language for a long time. I remember seeing the first such article a while back.

Basically the more used a verb- the longer it will take us to be liberated from its influence. Some like the verb "to be" are so enconsced in our language that they may take many many generations to eliminate.

Of course- this ignores any political movement to eliminate them- as countries become closer- if English remains the language of democracy- there may be a push to make English more standard. A new English without all the rule contradictions it currently has would be double-plus good.

You won't be able to celebrate your next birthday until you have reached a set list of objectives and accomplishments.

Under the new "pay-per-accomplishment schedule" birthdays will be measured as such:

1 - Must be able to walk before you are allowed to turn 1
2 - As soon as you can go a week without an accident or wearing a nappy/diaper you turn 2 years old (and have completed all requirements for ages above) ...etc...etc...

17 - you are not allowed to turn 17 until you lose your virginity. (and have completed all requirements for ages above)

18 - You are not allowed to turn 18 until you have completed 4 difficult video games(and have completed all requirements for ages above) ... etc... etc...

28 - you turn 28 years old when you get married (and have completed all requirements for ages above)

29- you don't turn 29 until you have a mortgage. (and have completed all requirements for ages above)

30- You are not allowed to turn until you have your first child (and have completed all requirements for ages above)

You get the idea... you turn 60 when you use preparation H on a daily basis.

Now age is entirely merit based and not on some silly time measurement.

Unfortunately most of slashdot is still 16.

The average programmer doesn't get much say in the matter- it is the company that hires him that does.

However, yes, it comes down to marketing. Big companies like Microsoft have a much better chance of convincing a CIO that they need to be using their language.

Let's assume a theoretical company, Megasoft, produced a language Db - D Flat is much better than C Sharp - it is easier to learn- faster to compile- produces smaller .exes, runs much faster. It even puts the kettle on and makes you a cup of tea whilst you program (coffee if you prefer).

Which company do you think the CIO is going to go with- Microsoft with their flashy brochures- or Megasoft that no-one has heard of with their awesome product.

Right, the CIO will insist that all coding be done with Microsoft. Microsoft will no doubt have given him a t-shirt at the last trade booth. Thus, they are the obvious choice.

I'd rather things didn't change. I will buy my CD- rip the music off it and use music from my CD on anything I want to play it on. I'd hate for music to be ruined in the same way that PC gaming has been ruined.
