unless their target has real money and knows what its doing...
I guess in their world of high profile targets this hate Church is one step below Amazon in the realm of evilness. I don't know where you go from here, to BobbysLemonadeStand.com?
Their new method of operation seems to be , groups that can't kick our ass or embarrass us are preferred.
is probably the basis for most of it. You can't go a day without a news story or advertisement related to financial records being stolen. As with anything else, if you repeat it enough people are going to start to believe it.
This is as bad as the remake of Red Dawn, yeah for those who didn't know they are doing a remake of Red Dawn.
There was zero reason to Watchmen to have released as R rated. If anything I got the distinct impression they were after that so all those geeks who would see the film regardless of rating could somehow feel smug that they were seeing an serious "artsy" film, you know what I mean.
Who needs nudity to tell most of these stories? This is starting to sound like I am in MMORPG where every other word in chat is a cuss word or bigoted as if that somehow elevates the participants to a higher level of maturity or intelligence.
Just give me good stories. Nudity is a cop out, the examples all cited by the article are dwell on nudity. Sorry, Alien was rated R for violence and gore and it was a damn site better than Watchmen. It was story and the presentation of the story that mattered, not who was wearing what.
They Germans have been turning a blind eye to the immigration of "lesser' people for sometime. The highly insular societies built up with in Germany are little better than those from the countries they fled. As with many societies, those of us who were born here (I am not from/in Germany - just a Western Country as in the US) tend to think many things are automatic. Instead we what happens is many of these groups get marginalized by government policies that are there to supposedly help them but keep them isolated instead. This opens up opportunity for some in those groups to enforce the old ways.
Simply google Turkish Immigrants Germany and you can find many articles, some very recent on the problems faced by them, especially women. Even over there people turn away from the particularly awful problems while talking up all the good that has been done
Culture determines what many consider freedoms let alone quality of life. What we may see as repressive others may see as comforting and safe. I am quite sure there are many rules in the good old U.S. of A. that are repressive to others in the world if not those who live here.
Physical rehabilitation at home, where the machine can truly tell if your doing your exercise correctly?
This device has so many uses we have only begun to scratch the surface.
My opinion, one of the most important innovations available to the public for working with computers/etc since the mouse. Microsoft could have really screwed this up but they really hit a homerun. While it may not pan out for as well as they want for its original purchase the ideas it sparks will show its true worth. When I played with one it was the first time I had the feeling that the future really is getting closer.
Coffee shops used to be about going to meet people, sitting down with a good cup of coffee or tea. Now, if my local Starbucks is any example, its a computer room. You can't get a table in my local Starbucks a few hours after they open because they are all hogged by laptop wielding customers. It really ruins the idea behind what these places used to (granted Starbucks ain't all that great for many people). Instead of hearing people talking, that background sound which shows life of the establishment, all you here is the click clack of keyboards.
Its not what these places were supposed to be about and those that forget it are quickly forgotten. Let someone else have the boring tech crowd - it is silly how they just congregate to not talk.
Which is why Congress won't go for a national sales / consumption tax in place of an income tax. With an income tax they can carve out little rules and such to support all their big donors. All those 100k lobbyist aren't up there to tell Congress what a good job they are doing, they are there to either get money directly out of our pockets or to avoid paying into that pocket.
A sales tax can be used to great effect to tax those dodging the system through income tax loopholes.
All you need to do is figure how much sales tax a family living at the poverty level (you can place it above the poverty level to provide even more buffer) and then refund that proactively to everyone in the taxing district. With the computer power today it would not be a big deal. So say the government determines that the first 10k you spend yearly should be tax free, well they can refund the $500 you would have to pay through debit cards or direct deposit and in worst case a check. Beyond that and you don't get a refund.
I know, but what if Mr. Big Shot buys something out state. Well if he keeps it out then its up to the locality where its located.
Yes I know about the fair tax, the flat tax, and others. Sales taxes are only regressive because we don't connect all the payouts to the poor that have to be made through other programs to make up for taking it from them on the front end. It all is so the big guys can play funny with taxes.
Like hell that I am going to shell out nearly a hundred a month to use one of these smart phones. If anything I think they coined the term "smart phone" to coerce people into paying the absurd monthly costs. As in, its a smart phone, which means the people using them are special, you know, smart, smarter and more hip than those who don't have one.
Really, people line up to pay over two hundred dollars for these and willingly sign up for nearly a hundred more a month just to use them? Oh I know, there are some alternatives, but most common unlimited plans with minutes will set you back nearly a hundred with taxes and fees.
Worse, I know quite a few people who do this who don't have the money for it. They of course are more than willing to have others pay for things they could be paying for if they didn't waste so much on status symbols which is what these phones are for a large number of people. I guess once "hicks" got blue tooth they needed a way to separate themselves again.
I can think of many better things to do with $1400 a year.
would she be fired? I seem to recall many people lauding the labor board's decision against an employer who took action against an upset employee who bad mouthed her employer.
Or do we need to pass a certain threshold of being mean?
Gross exaggeration and strawman do not support one's point of view. I am quite sure I can come up with all sorts of STUPID actions that no one in their right mind would fire or otherwise discipline an employee over. So instead why not discuss why you believe he should not have right to decide who he employs or keeps employed?
If he gives no reason other than its not working out can the former employee sue over for any reason they can come up with? What if they are a minority? I am sure they could suggest something. So what if they are fired for their online behavior.
Look, if you don't like working for me then leave. Why should I put up with you bad mouthing me in any forum that I have access too? If I can't fire you do I still have to give you a raise? Let you work full time?
WHOSE JOB IS IT ANYWAY?
So in your world the only recourse for the private business is to close down when faced with bad employees? Got my bale here.
They are both thefts, stealing ideas or stealing merchandise, where is the difference? Both are the products of others. What if the online source is a paid subscription model? Would that make the two equal? Is it OK to take from an public source like Wikipedia? Does that lessen the crime or just make one victim stand out more than another?
I don't see a difference except in who is getting cheated, in the first you are depriving someone the profits of their successful livelihood, in the second your depriving yourself of becoming better, in fact your caving into the problem many see in "this generation" (which this generation is this at the time is subject to those looking down on them) which is too do as little as possible for the greatest reward. You are establishing a work method that will likely stick with you your entire career and it will hobble them in it.
Google your favorite state, most publish the information I used teacher pay scale georgia 2010
Recent items I recall from reading about education has been, spending 60 million to build a high school in one city near me, when extravagance would have been half that, but I guess we needed it to look good. Having a school system where the number of non teachers on the payroll exceeds, well the number of teachers. Watching a major standardized test cheating scandal basically have some punishments muted all in the name of PC or fairness. Yet people under estimate the costs for fundamentals, like the fact Georgia spends over forty million a year on textbooks.
Funding priorities are definitely skewed but its rare that parents organize and try to get school boards to do anything. Everyone usually sends their kids to the best school in the district, its always "that other " school that is bad. It just works this way.
It was one of two things, either one final slap at Bush Inc or just another group clamoring to be part of the Obama experience. It certainly was not for America.
As far as his reaction, he will let others take that plunge for him. It has been his standard method, when something sticky comes up if he doesn't first shoot himself in the foot (think about his reaction to the harvard incident) he will have some flunky do it unofficially. Which is the most glaring reason his Presidency is so awful, he passes off the ball when its a tough issue and then spikes the football when its accomplished even when he did nothing but sit on the bench.
The Nobel Peace prize has become little more than a statement machine for those who award it, they are far more interested in expressing their political views than highlighting the best of us.
Here is a clue for the fanbois, Apple is out to make money, make lots of it, and they are doing very well at it. They are using News corp more so than News Corp is using them. See there is this little issue of Apple getting 30% of the take for doing nothing more than selling the platform to consumers. Its the best of both worlds for them.
Apple wants this publicized so OTHER companies join in so they can maintain their cash cow. The iPad and their new business model is meant to extract as much money as possible from end users. You are now just a bank account waiting to be drained. Not only do they get their 30% cut YOU willingly pay them for the device which enables them to do so.
From paying $299+ for a smart phone you in turn pay from $70 to $100+ to use to buying an iPad for $400+ that you again pay to access Apps they get a cut of.
Really, its beyond time to think that Apple is in our corner, we are just dollar signs to them and apparently far too many are way to willing to contribute.
Readers has run a sting operation that it says proves Slashdot has been watching what people read for on Hackers News, the stories they select from Hackers News page, then uses that information to improve Slashdots's own story listings"
I mean, if it is not a dupe its probably from Hackers News or worse, Digg
Is one story, but as you read others it becomes more clear. Amazon was more than happy with its 9.99 structure but publishers were looking at the iPad cash cow and Apple was willing to cut them better deals. So Amazon moved first and yes prices went up but it secured them the numbers and books they wanted
DAMNIT DON'T YOU GET IT!!!!!!!!! EVEEEL REPUBLICAN WAS WEARING THAT TIE BECAUSE HE WAS A RACIST HOMOPHONE HELLBENT ON TAKING YOUR HEALTHCARE AND INTERNETS!
Geez, the guy is partisan hack (The article author) who had nothing to write about other than slamming a Tea Party member and a the Republican House leader while tossing odd softballs across Obama's lap.
Really, the tie was probably the only interesting thing about his article.
I bet you can find more people like my Uncle and Aunt in Ohio who own a farm. They have dial up internet. That is all they want. They use it for mail, a few government sites, and not much else. Since its a working farm they don't have much time to spend on the computer. I know, broadband would free up more of their time, well not really. When relatives send pictures those can download with no one around and when they use their PC they are pretty much doing what they need to do, not just blindly surfing. Movies, well that is what local stations are for.
They aren't ignorant of the internet, just a lot of features and what others call necessities are not for them. When I tell them they can watch movies on demand over the net it doesn't pique their interest. They get their news and weather from the paper or broadcast TV.
When I tried to bump my parents internet to broad band a few years ago they were like, why pay more for that? It wasn't until a deluge of grand daughter pictures and the like did they see *ANY* value to high speed internet. Guess what, it still is all about getting the latest pictures. All that streaming/etc/whatnot is meaningless in their lives. They are very happy and content as they are.
People on tech sites tend to vastly over estimate the need for, let alone the desire of, many for high speed internet. Hell, you can enjoy life just fine without touching the net for weeks. If anything its made a nation of couch potatoes even a worse syndrome.
A simple consumption tax system would rid us of these problems, but Congress would lose their power to grant favors and impose penalties on entities of their choosing.
An income based tax system with this many different requirements and exceptions is designed to be abused. A consumption system is not because what good is their wealth if they don't spend it. If you want to soak the rich you simply implement a consumption tax and void all taxes paid up to a specified amount. As in, you determine the amount of spending required to keep people happy and whole and refund it, all beyond that goes into the coffers. This includes taxing services as consumption as well so that getting around the system becomes less likely.
