    Back when I was going to school I used my Fossil Wrist PDA to manage pertinent data rewired for my studies. I could also drive the teachers nuts by controlling the TVs with the built in infrared. Kids will always find a way. Just go to you tube and search for test cheating rubber band.

    I have been using a PC with 2 Ethernet cards running a Linux distro specifically for this kind of thing for years. It has antivirus and add blocking at the router level and handles some other important things. Would never go back to before.

    Its all about the demographic (Students) and the qty of apps available. This is a mobile first world we live in today. Making the device that the students use familiar is a good thing.

It also has a function that can simply retrieve a url and place the retrieved information in to a variable. So there are multiple ways to make it interact with the cloud and personal servers using standard web technology.

    Yep. The cheapest ones will need a usb to serial convert to be programmed. The more expensive ones have this built in to the board.
