    The handset makers and wireless service provides get paid to put crapware on the phones, they won't go vanilla Android.

    I am running Xubuntu and I like it a lot. The problem is that since XFCE isn't the main environment for *buntu so if I have a problem there isn't as many resources on the forums as there would be if I was running say gnome on fedoria or KDE on openSUSE (which I have installed on my moms laptop). Hopefully XFCE will take the place of gnome 2 for power users and geeks.

    Exactly, it is a cycle. With any monopoly eventually they get fat and lazy and put out a crappy product. That in turn presents an opportunity for a startup to enter the market.

    Hotmail was basically a IE only web site like 6 years ago. Using firefox on it was a pain. I don't know about more recently though because I hardy use hotmail anymore.

    In the internet age you can go from monopoly to a lot lower market share in no time. Look at Internet Explorer. It went from 90 percent plus to the 40 percent range in a matter of a few years.

    Exactly. Only very low end phone makers would put Android on their product without the Android branding (which is trademarked and requires authorization from google).

    The cost living is a lot higher in the US compared to 3rd world countries. So in a country like India someone could be solid middle class and even have a nanny and a cleaning lady yet still make less money than someone living paycheck to paycheck in the US.

    It is free if you have good enough grades to get in. If you don't have the grades you don't go to university and therefore cost is irrelevant. Does German have private schools where all the rich idiots go? That is how it is in Brazil.
