Solid Lunar Lander? I didn't RTFA, but what do they mean by that? I never heard of a liquid lunar lander )or gaseous), or do they mean using solid fuel rockets for landing and takeoff? That seems silly since you want controllable thrust, and luna hasn't got enough gravity that you'd need the SRB's like on the shuttle.
Are they going to check all the new laptops shipped from China too? Theres probably spyware, malware etc on their hard drives
Anyway its gpoing to mean long lines at the security checkpoints at airports as federal employees check out business travellers pron colledtions.
"Given the history of human civilizations discovering one another, it's pretty safe to say that each one of these interactions has resulted in disaster for the less advanced side. What makes you think the outcome would be any different if another civilization discovers us?"
SETI@home is not about sending messages TO the aliens, its about passively listening for their signals.
If there are ET's nearby (in the astronomical sense, say less than a few light centuries) wouldn't it be good for us to be aware of the fact, so we can keep quiet (revuce our high power radio/tv emmissions) so they are less likely to know we are here ( and come here and conquer us, steal our resources, eat us and rape our women, as portrayed in the SciFi horror movies...)
"If you really developed a 8388608-bit processor you could technically address 524TB of RAM. At that stage I don't think 1 meg pointers are as much of an issue as you're pretending they are."
I don't have a calculator that can do 2 to the power of 8388608, but its way bigger than the number of particles in the universe.
Whats the size of the telescope on this probe? It can't be anywhere near as big as Hubble, and even though it maybe going further out into the so;ar system, thats not going to make it significantly closer to any extra solar planets.
With a name like Deep Impact wouldn't make sense for it to look for any near earth asteroids or comets that might be coming our way.
"The Gypsy Moths" a 1969 movie starring BurtLancaster and Gene Hackman had a 'fly suit' like that. I remeber Burt Lancaster's charater "jumping the Cape' and flying it into the ground.
"#10. Real-Life Kryptonite A mineralologist discovered a white, powdery mineral that has the same properties - sodium lithium boron silicate hydroxide -- as the fictional kryptonite."
Who did they test it on? Christopher Reeve is dead alreadymmm
On holidays people typically drive longer distances, so they will take the hybrid rather than the elctric ar they use for commuting. - and they'd be towing the boat, carrying all the kids and the dog, and their stuff, so they would need the SUV anyway.
Today is 1st December. A typical storm involves snow, sleet, ice and freezing rain. Maybe these guys in WI should get outside some time. (hint: a shovel would be useful )

How do they know this is cycle number 24 ? The sun has been going for over 4.5 billion years, so it must have had millions of cycles...
No, that would need the imaginary numbers, which usually involve i (the square root of -1)

So will we be seeing Detectives: Green, Stabler, Benson, Munch, Tutuola, Goren, Eames and Logan riding around on these?
Turn all the lights off
Use a LED headlamp, it lights up where you are looking, so doesnt waste light. 1W does the work of 26W (CFL) or 100W (incandescent)
Now all we need is a hand crank powered charger for them.

in fact 2 to the power of 256 is probably closer.

"They even built and tested nuclear powered aircraft both in US and USSR"
They put reactor in a modified B36 and flew it, but the reactor never powered the plane.
What is 'natural' about the English language?
An Exaflood would be 1024 times a petaflood.
"No segways? Motor scooters?"
Those are not too useful at this time of year in the northern hemisphere, they don't go well in ice, snow and below 0 temperatures.
So you pressurize your tank with a non oxidising gas, nitrogen or carbon dioxide would do.

Intel was told you can't trademark a number

Prior to owning the Bommodore, I had owned a TRS80, then a Compucolor II, and then an Apple ][+
Somebody please tell congress that they don't have jurisdiction on other planets.
I remember when they were 2 cents for local calls
(we were so poor we didn't have a car, or a TV or a phone...)

Its winter here in the northern hemisphere. In less than a montht it will be the shortest day.
Now why couldn't they get the shaking to CHARGE the battery? After all they can do that with flashlights.
However Pluto is no longer a planet, so it doesn't count.
