"But it's more revealing about the fact that non-western civilizations had an advanced grasp of the physics/science behind this stuff."
I fail to see how the Incas were a non-western civilisation. The lived in 'the west' (compared to europe), and they certainly had an advanced civilisation, even if they didn't have the wheel or horses.
"Why does everyone assume aliens will have superior technology?"
We are looking for them with radio telescopes. If they are less advanced than we are then we wouldn't know they were there. The chances that they are exactly the same level of technology as us is rather slim, so anybody we find would be mode advanced than us.
Laser beam has more bandwidgth than radio, but it still travels at the same speed (c).
And the distance mentioned (1.5 million kilometres) doesn't seem very useful. thats too far for the moon, but not far enough for Mars - theres nothing out there to talk to.
Doesn't blockbuster have a similar service to netflix - but with the added advantage that you can return the movies to the store as well as posting them.
In the end it will be thte one with the greatest selection of titles that will win out.
"If I had a horrible accident and became a quadrapole, I could still recite my password to someone if need be... good luck doing that with this kind of authentication."
I think you mean quadraplegic. According to Wikipedia:
A quadrupole is one of a sequence of configurations of electric charge or gravitational mass that can exist in ideal form, but it is usually just part of a multipole expansion of a more complex structure reflecting various orders of complexity.
So do you have to be a citizen to contribute to this project? I take it illegal aliens aren't welcome. What about legal aliens who have yet to become citizens?
I thought Flash memory had a limited (write cycle) lifespan. If they have solved that problem it would be great. When are they coming out with a laptop version?
I was surprised at the 39.5 inches - when did that become a unit of measure. 39.37in I could understand...

Fortunately traffic on Mars is fairly light, the two rovers have the whole planet to themselves.

The restaurant owner could simply put tinfoil in the walls etc to block the signal. Thats not illegal.

Lets mine the far side of the moon, where it won't be seen by those on earth.
Maybe the meteor impact caused the volcanos to start up.

But we are not talking about the common man, we are talking about the 21st century schizoid man.

Automated robotic fighting vehicle? Sounds like a Bolo to me....
Pread that the 1910 appearance was pretty spectacular.
But I agree about the 1986 one - I could just make it out with binoculars
I'm waiting for a 256 Zigabyte drive (Ziga is the binary equivalent of a zillion)
Eswpecially as abbreviations often have more one meaning. For example someone just refered to the "DNC" which I thought meant "Do Not Call"
Why someone who has FireFox download IE7?

"there is no dryer that is anywhere near as efficient as a clothes line."
A clothes line does not work when it is raining, and its not that good in still, humid air.
Isn't fhat normally called the Mississippi?
How about a 1Thz CPU with on board 1TB cache that only needs 1mw of power
Fossett may have been the first to fly SOLO around the world, but Dick Rutan and Jeana Yeager flew round the world non stop without refueling in 1986.
Since the whole world (with the exception of the USA) uses the metric system, why not change to metric music?
You could use 1000hz as the reference frequency and have a 10 note decave instead of a 12 note octave. (Hey shouldn't an octave be eight notes?)
Whats next? Quantum Hard Drives?
