Apple should buy VMware and build the virtual machine into OS X in such a way that any x86 or x86-64 operating system can be run in a window or full-screen. They should also increase the capabilities of Rosetta, so that any G3, G4, or G5 software can be run on the new Intel-based Macs. Finally, they should create virtual machines for all other major platforms out there, such as the ones supported by NetBSD. This will permit darn nearly any software out there to run on a Mac.

Look at what Apple has been able to accomplish by mixing the code and culture of thir own system with that of NeXT and with that of the FOSS community. Eighty-six million lines of code from all of these sources comprise their marvelous operating system, a great success that continues improving across the board.

When will Microsoft, with all its economic power and marketing prowess, realize that they need to take the plunge and go open source? When will they realize that by mixing all of their software with lots of stuff from the FOSS community, they can grow the functionality of their software by orders of magnitude while increasing its stability?

Linux cannot do anything once it boots up. It just says: login. Whatever you type, it says: password. Then whatever you type, it just goes back to saying login again.

Windows is much better. When it starts up, you get glossy graphics with beautiful windows. The start menu is just one click away. It's so easy to use. Not like this login/password nonsense of Linux. In fact, any user can go up to your Windows computer and do whatever he wants.

These ISPs are so stupid. They tell you that you pay X amount of dollars a month for "unlimited" Internet access, because they probably figure that some people will use the Internet, say, an hour a week, and leave the connection lying dormant the rest of the time. And in some cases, they're right. However, other people are making use of that "unlimited" access. And then the ISPs cry and whine about it.

If you don't want to cry and whine when someone actually makes use of the "unlimited" aspect of some service that you offer for a fixed price, then don't offer it in the first place!

  15. I don't have a problem with it, but... on FBI Data Mining Students' Financial Aid Records · · Score: 1

I don't have a problem with the data mining of FAFSA stuff if it helps to fight the War on Terror.

As an aside, if you believe this war is a sham, and you believe that there is no global terrorist threat, then pay closer attention the next time Iranian "president" (A-mad-jihad or whatever his name is) goes on television and advocates the annihilation of a country, namely Israel. And that's only one piece of the puzzle. There has been global terrorism since at least the 1970's, and it's all connected to the same sources. Open oyur eyes and you'll realize that this war is very real and it's a grave threat to all people who want to live their lives in peace.

But I do see a problem with this data mining program: It means that people who do not fill out FAFSA forms will be excluded from the data mining process. And it's not as if the terrorists lack the funds to pay tuition in order to work around this data mining program.

I suggest that a simpler program should be put into effect that essentially ties all schools, colleges, and universities, into a database that houses very basic information about each student who enters the country with an educational visa in order to study. When they apply for the visa, detailed information about them would go into this database. Schools would submit information about every student who attends, basically just saying how many units they're enrolled in and whatnot. Very basic information. When the information about foreign students goes into the database, it would be matched against the other information about them in that database. The purpose of the whole thing would be to keep track of all foreign students -- who is enrolled where, and whether this person is actually attending class. That is the gist of it, because this particular program is supposed to find people who enter the country with an education visa in order to study, but actually go on to do other activities, like participate in terrorism.

I hate to say it but BSD is dying. It was a thriving community and a great program while it lasted, but in the past month, there has been a decline in the use of this software, and now, everyone is switching to the Mac, with Mac OS X, which, with its market share of millions of installations, has absolutely nothing to do with BSD, and that is the reason that BSD has begun its decline last month, and probably by next month, there will be no more BSD code in use in the world. No, I don't mean that it says that because one of the Wikipedia moderators put it there. I mean, it says that because people are stupid and can't be objective about anything, and they'll ruin it for the rest of us. Here's an encyclopedia that anybody can improve, but instead, people are putting trash on many its articles, because they disagree with something. That particular article is about the State of Israel. People are blinded by hate speech.

Here's another example of a page with such protection activated: George W. Bush. Again, even if someone doesn't agree with his policies, why vandalize the page? That's childish and stupid.
