  1. I second Itanium on The Corporate Lame Name Game · · Score: 1

I second the vote for Itanium.. Where the heck did that come from anyway? Take the leading 't' off 'titanium'? IMHO, 'Titanium' is way better than 'Itanium' any day..

Of course, then people will think the processor is made out of titanium rather than silicon and whatever else..

Get to the keyboard control panel, select the "Language" tab, and change the layout from 'United States' (or whatever it is) to 'United States-Dvorak' The keymap changes immediately..

Of course, I would have to think it would be easy/cheap enough to get some 386 or 486 chips (or anything else, for that matter) that could fit into the approximate form factor of a TI calculator.. I mean, $120 for a TI-86 that takes a minute to graph a moderately complex equation? Come on!

I don't know if the so-called "NSA key" has actually been supplied to the NSA, or even if Microsoft takes much care to look after it. Unfortunately, each key that Microsoft adds will make their operating systems less secure..

  15. Arbitrary Boundaries on Time's Man of the Century: Linus Torvalds? · · Score: 2

First off, I hope that Time will decide that they should have a group of people be the "People of the Century", rather than have a single person. Perhaps it should be a group of leaders, whether it includes the likes of Hitler or not. Maybe some of the people that put together the first computers in this century -- the computer has definitely had a lasting impact (at least on those of us in developed or moderately developed countries). There is a huge number of people in the computer (and networking -- i.e. Internet) field that could be mentioned. Of course, those people would probably get much more credit if the century had started in 1940 or 1950 instead of 1900 -- nobody wants to have someone from 1995 to be a Person of the Century...

Of course, Time isn't going to take the online poll as a literal thing -- they are most likely just using it to get ideas, and to see some of the different people that we look up to, hate, or get brainwashed by..

I think Time will pick someone we don't all know, just to prove a point.. Perhaps the person that discovered you could transmit sound over the radio, the inventors of RADAR, or some other moderately obscure person or group. I guess I just don't need to get reminded about all the wars, oppression, and death that happened in this world in the last century.. I'd rather see someone that made a lasting, positive impact -- even if we hardly recognize their names.

Well, I run at 1280x1024, and the fonts in Netscape often look absolutely crappy. They have extra chunks all over the place -- looks like they thought the fonts should be getting antialiased, even though they really aren't..

At any rate, I wouldn't mind if there were different systems for the simple 1-bit fonts, and another for antialiased font. Just use whichever works better for the situation. If you need speed, use the traditional stuff. If you want it to look pretty, use antialiasing (or whatever other fun technique they come up with).
