Now to reply to what was MEANT.

I for one will be pissed off if Covad goes out of business. I get my DSL from Speakeasy through Covad. I love the Speakeasy TOS that lets me do whatever I choose, including running DNS servers for my website and mail and web servers. Changing to another TOS where almost 100% of them say "You CANNOT RUN SERVERS!!! OR WE WILL BEAT YOU WITH A BIG STICK!" would really piss me off. I already lost Flashcom who were not charging me which was nice.

I dont think there is anything we can really do though. Anyone have any ideas?

I like Debians apt-get but a lot of stuff out there is RPM based which works just as good. I say try em all, I mean they are FREE! Find one or three you like and use those. I track, numbers, appointments, finances. I use it to write notes, I can write in graffiti just as well as on paper. I play games on mine too. Dont use it to write letters or spreadsheets b/c I have a laptop. Also a factor was that later if I needed a (cell phone, GPS, camera, MP3 Player) etc I could get it for the Handspring. Since I got the laptop, I have not needed any of the above. The laptop is inconvenient for small notes and things like shopping lists but the handspring is good. Plus I can sync the laptop and handspring which I do to keep changes current.

Part of my complaint is that there are soo many PDA's coming out the market will get too saturated and companies will start adding useless gizmos to theirs to attract people. These gizmos will up the cost to a good PDA that is now too expensive b/c it has digital camera for example. I dont mind things that are useful, and your's is obviously useful to you which is good. I just want it to get to a point in a few years where each one of these things comes with more things than you need and a nice inexpensive one is impossible to find. Thats what I do not want to happen. Will it happen? I dont know.

The main reasons you get a PDA is for appointment tracking and keeping phone numbers etc. Adding all these gizmos does not make the PDA any better. Seriously, how many people will record their voices on the PDA, WHY? So they can listen to themselves? Come on. Lets focus on making an inexpensive, good quality PDA that is fast, reliable and user friendly. All gizmos do is make the batteries run out fast and add to the cost of the thing. I have a Handspring Platinum and I like it. I dont have any expansion modules for it becuase I think they are a waste of money. I got the platinum version becuase it was Faster.

The advantage is that Free Software will never die as long as there is someone to keep it alive. That is also a disadvantage as you cannot really make money from it.

Does Microsoft have to ask for handouts after a release of their OS? I take that selling support isn't going tremendously well either.

True MS doesnt ask for handouts. You have to rethink your stance though. Think about WHEN MS became big. Around 1995-1996 with Windows 95. Why? Becuase there was no alternative and computers were just hitting the main stream. All MS had to do was ride the wave. They got lucky, a LOT of companies start out by being lucky on one thing. Today is very different. The majority of people dont know about Linux. They dont want to know and they dont care. Their Windows computer works just fine for internet surfing.

The Linux companies CANNOT charge for their products becuase they are all similar and you can get it somewhere else for free. And with newsgroups and email lists, tech support becomes trivial. I agree with you that they're pretty much screwed but Supply and Demand comes brutually into play especially when its free.

These same companies cant make proprietary software because the Linux uses bitch about their GPL and FREE software. They are basically fucked. Dont think im Linux bashing becuase I'm not. I use Linux daily and I do think it eventually will become competition for the desktop market. Stability and power will be the selling points. With the restricting Windows XP and as computer users become more and more knowledgeable they will move to os's that let them do what they want to. Mandrake will be powerful in this regard with its simple install and ease of use. Give it time, it will happen, if I had to guess, 2 - 5 years.

I do believe the biggest problem with the PDA market is that there are tons out there to choose from. Palm and Handspring pretty much have the PDA market wrapped up. Recently we have seen Linux versions out there but the reviews have been less than good. So many bad things why would this one work. I think the biggest problem with a company wanting to get into the PDA market is financing. And with the market financing is about as hard to get as the RIAA to endorse anything that "might" infringe on their profits. By getting well funded organizations into the fray getting a good, stable and inexpensive PDA that runs Linux to the market becomes more of a reality.

I know about the IPaq but I dont like Windows. So I bought a Handspring which I love. The biggest reason for the Handspring was that I needed good applications which is one of the PalmOS based PDA's greatest selling factor. That and the Handspring has the expandable modules.

Linux PDA's will be out in due time. They will be good and they will be inexpensive. The key is we need to get the RD factor funded by a company that wont fold because their stock drops. Only money will get the Linux PDA's out there and able to compete with the current one. Money and Linux, two words that do not usually go nicely together.

Sea is a better option than air because our Fighter Pilots will easily shoot down enemy air craft transporters as they are slow etc. Granted they will be accompanied by fighters and thats fine. Our Radar systems will intercept enemy plans a LONG time before they get even close.

By Sea would be a better choice as most of the US Navy is not near the US coastland. Although a country sending in troops by sea would run into a LOT of US Citizens who would not be too happy. Granted a lot of them would run far away, there would also be a lot who would fight back.

If the US got invaded by land you would see a milita form faster than you could blink. Using Cell phones and radio equipment could coordinate a nice counter-attck. Granted the losses would be HUGE compared to a trained army. And granted we as citizens dont have the weaponry to take out tanks and heavy artillery but we do have enough people to slow down a attack until the Military gets there. I do have weaponry at home that will go through any military body armor out there from a nice distance. Its called a 50 Caliber rifle.
