Didn't see that one, but I saw the one with the girl on the roof aligning the satillite dish and the TV in the house all of a sudden getting a picture, her smiling, and then someone older controling a sattilite array or something, then the navy bit.
As for the American Army game (which i find myself playing Rabidly), I think your right about the tip of the iceburg part, only I think it's going abit more sinister. If you want to sign up for the Beta team they quitely ask you at the bottem for your Social Security number or Drivers Licence ID...... Call me Paranoid, but it sounds to me like the creation of a Priority draft list or something. Supposedly though the main intention of the game originally was just to get people asking questions about the Army and how it operates, Which it definatly has been doing.

a & b) I thought on of the main ideas behind open source was freedom of choice? By doing this, your purposefully excluding something. Although not as wide scale as "You can only use this", it still is creating an intended wall. c) a campaign of twisted/dis information? so it's fight fire with fire?
Also, since it's open source, can't they just (depending on the licence) brance it off and make a DRM/Palladium friendly version?
Also, if there was a $1 charge per month or such as mentioned below, where would the money go? And how would you enforce it? give them a key? Who manages the Key system? And what happens when people start sharing the keys? the whole thing goes under. Make it some key that is based off of something specific in their CPU? The CPUID or something? isn't that the same as what it is your trying to defeate? Once they get a new CPU they loose that software package because it doens't match up exactly. So your kinda creating a DRM type system to fight another DRM type system...
Acctually I belive it has something to do with broadcasting over the powerlines. As for range I can pick up Carneige Mellons campus radio station (which is imo the best in the area) a good deal father then 2 miles away(all the way out in Mckeesport).
All though this is very similar to a very naughty tactic by a current company (Would they cry and sue if you used their idea?), what if you did something just redirect ad.doubleclick.net and other prominent ad sites to your own local banner ad server, with, Local banner ads. People couldn't complain about you screwing up the formatting of a page or anything, because the spaces for the ads will already be there. It would involve no proxy, just a little dns twist.
Does this sound to wrong or or illegal or anything like that?

Yea, but doens't the thing usually beep to tell you it's no longer getting power? I don't think what ever place he is in would be that happy if they were all sitting there playing and had some box making some high pitched beeping noise constantly:)
If we make everyone use a Broken Crypto that we can always decode with super secret Key, we can Monitor Terrorist activities, and that is what we will say so everyone will go along with it - The Terrorists use Untainted Crypto and we get spied on
Lets make it so that you have to leave your figerprint when ever you use a check so we can track criminals who commit fraud, and that is what we will say so everyone will go along with it - The Criminals use unpartisipating stores and we get spied on
Any more examples that fit this little pattern I am missing?
I Preordered myself the november one and when comparing the prices there was a minimal ($10) difference between the august and the november editions, except for the big big one that has a National Geographics special in it and 2 bookends of those 2 statues, that was $70.
hmmmm, I got at least 700 acres of various terrains upon the death of a certian relitive who was rather fond of me....... Don't like that Durnk much either...
Your not suppose to run servers:) Doesn't stop most people I know who have ftp, http, mail and other running off of it. You just have to be careful about who you give access too, because the only way they really check (They could do it different more assuring ways, but I think they understand that if someone took enough time to hide from them they would just be too much work to pursue anyways) is the occasional portscans. As for the waps, I don't think they even really check that yet other then in major problem areas (didn't they start going around busting people in the bay area for the san fran wireless community thing? or was that RoadRunner?) they look for node lists online. Bottem line, they don't want you too, but they wouln't really catch you less your an idiot.
I will cite one example for this, the person I buy memmory off of. In pittsburgh, there is a computer show and sale hosted once a month by MarketPro. When there, there is only one person I buy any form of memmory from. If he doesn't have it, he gets it next show or will send it to you. Right now he owes me 128 megs 266DDR, and I will get it. He remembers a face, he is polite and honest. If it's broken, he will replace it almost no questions asked (less it's like broke in two or something). This man has almost a cult like following of system builders who go and will always go to him. And with this, his buisness is thriving. Because of the loyalty we have to him, he keeps comming back to the show, everyone keeps coming to him, he can keep prices low, and can still make a profit. Also, on that note, try taking part of your stock to a show such as this. Not only will people be able to buy your stuff there, but you will have people who will come back to you if they like you.
I just blew out about 100 dells (low end of my current job, an air compressor, a shitload of computers, and a whole lot of dust), and the labs that had the dells (24 total per lab) when compared to the labs of the others (non-dells) are a good deal more quite, quite enough to the point of where we can acctually Sleep there. On that note, and I don't know if it's connected or not to the use of ducting, the dells have alot less dust in there then all of the rest.
About once a month there is one here in Pittsburgh put on by Market Pro. They have just about everything there you could ever want, decent prices, and most are willing to haggle on the price abit.
Since it seems no vendor has managed to produce an ACPI-implementation that is both reasonably bug-free and reasonably complete......
All though not 100% relevant, and not viewed friendly, You can install Windows 2000 (Dunno bout NT, or XP for that matter, never really tried though) without ACPI support, and to my experiance, it seems to run alot better. I Belive you hit F5 when during setup it asks you to hit F6 for the RAID drivers (I think maybe could be SCSI). And then out of the list, pick Standard PC. It seemed to raise the uptime on the boxes I was in charge of (Which was bad because it made my supervisor even less willing to switch to bsd). There are better descriptions online.
Here in Pittsburgh, AT&T gave me a deal for AT&T Digital Phone Service with 2 lines and Three Way Calling and Call Waiting and Caller ID, AT&T Digital Cable with a shit load of premiums, AT&T Cable Internet, and AT&T Long Distance for about roughly $100 a month, which I take to be a pretty sweet ass deal. I have no interest in cancling the Digital Cable and doing this because then I get less for more by leaving the package deal.
And your Right about the logo, it kinda does look like the death star, and if you read some of the old Bloom County comics they made the same reference.

You can always apply to become a Beta tester for Americas Army. You should play it abit, and get to know it all before you go and sign up though.....

1) Find the place that sells these Rare Fuses
2) ?
3) Profit?
They want /.ers to Stop posting Login/Passes for new items that link to a NYTs article, so to appease the /.ers, they come out with this.
When I say Local Banner ads I mean local buisnesses and such, not saying local twice on the same thing

Yea, but when you walk up and they hand you a fingerprint scanner, I don't think they are gonna let you place a wad of Gummi bears on it :)
If it wern't for them trying to have that site blocked, I would have never found out about it :)
