I've seen a variety of comments on the video that don't seem to sync with what actually happened:
(note: these observations are based off the one of the video links
"There was no need to arrest him.": We don't know at what point he was being arrested and at what point he was being removed from the area. Officers can remove you from involvement and not arrest you. The only basis for the belief that he was being arrested are his immediate cries that "What are you arresting me for!" (0:15)
"He was in handcuffs when we was tazed.": No he is not. At 1:55 when he asks not to be tazed you can clearly see he has pulled free from the officers and is holding onto a chair.
"He was pinned down by the X number of officers.": He was not pinned. He initially complies and rolls onto his stomach. (1:35) After a few seconds of struggle he rolls back over and grabs onto a chair (1:52)
"He wasn't warned.": At 1:15 he is warned by two officers that he needs to stop resisting, and he continues to scream and fight. One officer is heard to clearly say "you will be tazed if you do not comply"
If we are going to debate the cause and effect, as well as the ultimate "correct actions" of the officers, we should at a bare minimum get the details correct and not follow gut reactions.
I feel your pain. I tried to work my way off several times during college, and failed miserably. (Anyone else ever get that carmalized feeling in their throat/stomache? Where another swig would make you sick of soda/coffee?)
What I found worked for me, and helped me cut down to a resonable level was a mix of poverty and logic. (I don't recommend the poverty, but the logic sticks) I couldn't afford to constantly be buying soda and coffee, so I started drinking water whenever I had the need.
I still fed the need for the caffene, but I found that by also uping my water intake I wasn't suffering headaches nearly as bad. Yes I got them, but they were more of an irritant then a distraction. Basically, work your way down slowly, and replace water where you would normally drink some caffene.
(Just be aware you will hit the bathroom _much_ more with the water, being that soda/coffee is a diaretic, and water isn't)
The fact of the matter is that none of the developers (myself included) own a Multimedia unit to work with. The possibility is always there, but for us, right now the _need_ isn't there.
You state "...about some company using GPL'ed code in their closed-source product...", and finish up by saying "...Either respect other people's licenses, or don't be surprised when they don't respect yours...."
So basically we have the following: 1. Using GPL'ed software in closed source is wrong (I agree) 2. Not following a closed source liscence is wrong (I agree) 3. Ppl that bitch about GPL being violated shouldn't break closed source liscence's. (I agree)
What I'm saying here is that what you say seems to come across, well, strange on the last point. The majority of ppl that use software that is GPL'ed won't be using Microsoft liscened software where they can avoid it. So your statement of "respect[ing]" other liscences bears no weight.
Those that would break closed source liscences are prob going to break GPL's liscense if they needed to. One does not have a direct bareing on the other following your 'respect' statement.
I have to say I agree in theory; however, using your example, the majority of users that do not use the Microsoft base will more then likely have no use for the pirated software (let alone the key).
Following from that, the statement of "Either respect other people's licenses, or don't be surprised when they don't respect yours." doesnt hold water. Those that would use the pirated software will in general not care about GPL or other Public liscene's. And in turn a fair number of alt OS's don't have MS liscense's affecting them.
1. Hug your mom and tell her you love her. Now. Go do it now. (I would not tell me that it's my last chance).
2. Learn what studying means. Learn to do it, but don't let it take over your life.
3. Your first year in college you are going to meet a hot red head that shares the suite of the girl you are dating. _DO NOT DATE HER_. fnord She's a bitch. Everyone will know it but you. Prozac is not a _choice_. Do not pay for the sins of the father. fnord. You have been warned.
Rockbox (http://rockbox.haxx.se) is another reason to go for the Archos Jukebox. Open source firmware replacement. We are at ver 1.2. Handle a larger playlist (10,000), which loads faster. And the src base is very active.
Working on Rockbox alone, and having the firmware has prevented me from selling my 20G unit.

As a contributor to the software, I have to ask, what makes you think that the Rockbox group is a company?

Hope that helps.

That make more sense?
