    Yes, you are over-sensitive. Some things are funny regardless of subject matter, that post was one of them, it was well written, well observed, witty humour. Claiming it is not funny because it references such a tragic subject which almost certainly doesn't even affect you or have any bearing on your life is simply being closed minded. I bet you're a Bible-Belt inbreeding by-product aren't you?

    History is re-written by the losers, at least by the Americans when they lose.

    Anyone know where the "inbred with bad dentistry" stereotype came from? The worst sets of teeth I ever saw in a 'developed' country were in America.
    The same country that has the highest rate of inbreeding-related congenital deformities in the first world.

    But of course statistical information, like history, is re-written by the losers... :)

    Wolfenstein 3D was a long time ago.

    If it makes you feel any better, the last game I was involved with for the N64 only had to have 'religious symbols' and 'alcohol references' removed.
    All the violence, gore and innuendo survived and even a cigar (smoking references BAD!) got into the game 'cos it was related to the license.

    The expansion pack uses a far lower latency type of RAM and rather than adding to the N64s VRAM actually replaces it.
    Nintendo realised what a dog Rambus memory was.

    Note: This is pure speculation on the part of programmers trying to work out why access times plummet and performance jumps when using an expansion pack.

    Double precision SSE2 will never be used for quality video compression or raytracing or anything of that sort as it doesn't produce the requred accuracy.
    How many software companies working in these fields will support a feature that makes their product faster than the competition when running on a P4 but has to sacrifice quality to do so?

    I don't normally like to confuse people with facts they clearly are not capable of understanding but here goes.

    Those P4s have a 400MHz FSB connected to twin RDRAM channels giving it a memory bandwidth of 3.2 Gb/s, compared to the athlon with a 200MHz FSB and its DDR RAM with a 2.1 Gb/s bandwidth.

    The DDR RAM only slaughters the single channel RDRAM systems and the P3s with low FSBs.
    Against the P4 it's more even (taking into account the latency problems of RDRAM).

    Run any software that uses lots of CPU power eg DVD players, direct X games and you'll see what he's talking about as these speed critical apps have been optimised for 3D Now instructions and in most cases do run rings around the same program on a P3.

    The only hoax is the internet one started a few years back about people being employed specifically to right the overturned penguins.

    The 'penguins tipped over by bored harrier pilots' story is an established fact among RAF staff who did duty in the Falklands.

    Note that on the sites where this story is debunked as an urban myth, the only quote that says so outright is from an RAF PR person. Not the type of person who could admit that their pilots have been killing penguins.

    Incidentally many penguins have been found dead, stuck on their backs. The cause is almost certainly low flying RAF humorists.

    Then by how many people were mugged for their new consoles on the way home on the first day of sales...

    Memory bandwidth limitations make it virtually impossible to use both vector units for the 3D engine so developers are struggling to find a way of using the second one to the fullest without crippling another process.

    Most just don't bother.

    The PS2 IS a bitch to write for simply because Sony designed it as simply a more up to date Playstation.
    The Gamecube is a dream to develop for as Nintendo went round the most prolific developers and asked them what was wrong with the N64 when they were deciding on the feature set, resulting in a VERY well balanced machine.

    N64 used Rambus, look what Nintendo learned from that: The N64s memory expansion which 'added extra video memory' actually REPLACED the original video RAM with a much lower latency type resulting in substantial performance increases in a few games that were oddly programmed.

    Also the Gamecube uses a 16MB integrated SRAM main memory.
    They REALLY don't want to suffer Rambus-like latencies again!

    The Genesis wasn't 'king' for long, even in America. In Europe it got badly stomped by the SNES.
    The N64 still has titles being developed for it because it is a well-liked machine that is easy to develop for. Most companies are dropping Dreamcast support already though.
    Sega sales just don't stay high for very long.
