everythings looking pretty damn good.. im happy to see the (Score:X) put next to comments that are replyed to comments. its good for just eyeing up Scores and seeing what to read, without not seeing lesser. everyday is something new exciting with slashdot lately, and i look forward to tommorrow, and the next day, and...
what about customizable stories also? mine would involve Microsoft. *g* -- Scott Miga
hey a quick note to let everyone know that "Running to the Mountain" is not at the Waldenbooks store at my local mall. I've gone their twice now and had them check it up; they say their getting it soon. i hope so.. i think it's a great book. ill check for it in georgia while i'm down ther next week.
P.S. just in case you haven't noticed, the mysterous question marks have re-appeared.:) -- scott miga
ok, heres a crazy AC idea, but.. how about if AC's only get like 1 comment they are allowed, by using cookies or whatever, and that would pressure them to get accounts. i mean come on, how many times do you read intelligent AC comments? not very often.. limiting the number of comments they are allowed to post would a) lessen the number of total comments for each story b) lessen the number of ignorant AC comments per story c) lessen the number of broken keyboards due to the anger of people replying to AC flames.:) -- scott miga
Nice idea, but when you think about it, there's always a negative side. negative in being that if everyone becomes a moderator, that means flamers and people who only create conflict would become one. now that they are one, they can go around shooting down comments and what-not. you have a good idea, but there's always that one aspect that you didn't think about. -- scott miga
with regards to the recent slashdot moderation issues, i feel the following actions should take place:
a system just like Rob is talking about, with moderators moderating comments making it easier for people who want good comments, to read them.
making it so that moderators don't read AC posts, as 99% of them are garbage and should be disregarded. besides, if the writer really wants to post some meaningful comments, then they should go grab a/. account. maybe its already done this way, i dont know.
the improvements Rob is talking about sounds like they would work.. without many problems. there will always be AC garbage posts, but there will also always be good thoughtful posts which benefits the reader who's reading them.
kick ass rob! and take no prisoners!:) -- scott miga
well, what about producers copyrights and stuff? like its illegal to download mp3s that you dont own the cd of, wont this be the same thing? -- scott miga
im suprised.. this version of E is working quite nicely, contrary to what others may say. it compiled fine(except for sound, which i dont care about), and has been running quite well. now im just messing around with gnome, but no real complaints on this release. i used them all up on the daily-snaps.:) -- scott miga
hrm, i wonder if it would be possiable to eliminate the index.pl off the custom slashdot and have it so that when someone accesses/. without a login, or they arent logged in, then it would just show the default slashdot, otherwise, if they do have an account, they will see their custom modifications. just an idea?:) -- scott miga
heh, i understand that as well, im just finding out if linux can have the user produce good "peices" of work.. in a professional way using tools in linux.. im not talking about the style or kind of writing.:) -- scott miga
i think you mis-understood my question. my question was that to see which he used, mac or linux. i wanted to know because then it would tell me if professional work could be produced in linux or if he had to use a mac. the question had nothing to do with the content of his writing per say. -- scott miga
just a quick question.. did you use macintosh or linux to write that post? im not critizing, im just asking which one he used, to see if linux can be used fluently to produce good writings for professional use. my guess would be that it was written on a mac, but of course, who knows, maybe he used linux. it would be nice, but not nessessary.:) -- scott miga
i understand your point, but im just saying how if the first post is elimnated, then the 2nd person who posts will become the 1st post, so you really cant get rid of the first post. well, if you disabled comments all together, but that wouldnt be good.:) -- scott miga
heya rob, thank you. this is great how i can scroll down the page and not see 400 absent-minded AC comments about nothing. maybe this will force more ACs to get accounts? who knows, but its great!:) -- scott miga
im very suprised on this article being published on the web. i received my issue of "PC Magazine" on Friday and immedially read the open source article. it is approx. 11 pages long, out of a 262 page magazine. but what suprised me even more was that they put the entire article online for everyone to see. most magazine websites you have to pay or be a subscriber. nice work pc mag! -- scott miga
really? cool man, i didnt know that. hold on.. ill call my mommy and ask her what age i am.... ok, shes claims im 23. i dunno, its funny, why would i know what age i am? next.. your right.. i go to a school in new york, SUNY, Fredonia State University, in New York. woa, you know my name? could that be because maybe i post it everywhere, espically on themes.org. your a hax0r man. stop hax0ring me. im scared. no really, lets grow up here, drop the diapers and walk on your own two feet. -- scott miga
heya, whats up? good to see your still around. this will be a short one, i don't wanna waste time getting you mad. about the logging in, uhm, theres not a skill involved. if you would like to post real comments, people get accounts. people, err, kids like you go around posting rude and malicious comments making fun of people, or at least trying to. its sad, it really is. sorry to inform you, but your 1 million dollars poorer. as to the age deal, i am 23, and i attend Fredonia State University in NY(SUNY). last time i checked 23 year olds weren't allowed in high school, hey, i may be wrong.. really buddy.. email me.. cause im tired of checking back here to see if my wonderful admirer has replyed. -- scott miga
yes, its true. i am a 15 year old monkey-spank. no really kiddies, im really not. why did i not reply to his "thats not all you feel" comment.. a few reasons..
1) it was immedially ignored, totally-childish.
2) just re-read his comment, its sad.. really it is
3) last of all, him, and you for that matter, are scared of revealing your true identity. its people like the Anonymous Cowards that ruin slashdot and make it a worse and worse experience for the rest of us who wish to come here and discuss the latest happenings in the computer world, with your pathetic remarks, and i dont even want to waste my time typing to re-comment on such praising peices of work.
once again, thanks for replying. it always makes my day to be able to come back and reply to such intelligent and humble minded comments. any more comments/questions, email me.

-On the front page, do not list total comments; rather, only list the number of comments that match the user's filterlevel;
i agree with this alot.. i often compare the filtered version againest the non-filtered number of comments.
