Problem there is even if the current government doesn't allow 3rd party access to the DNA database, would the next congress/administration share the same vision? How long until someone decides its ok for 3rd party researchers to access the data for 'medical study'? How long until the massive lobbying dollars start flowing in from insurance companies in order to 'change opinions' to help ins companies better manage risk? And so on and so on.
Welcome to Gattica.
Problem is, companies want skilled IT workers for the cost of an entry level office worker....
That's why they bitch and moan and want to pull workers from overseas.
It's called a 'Paper MCSE' where someone breezes through the multiple choice certification exam and get the MCSE. People can become MCSEs by guessing right.... Hell, shady companies even sell certs outright...
I've held certs, and they are good to weed out people for entry level positions.... but are useless beyond that.
I'm right there with you buddy. And the influx of H1B visa workers is downward pressure on salaries as well. I thought by now I would be making far more than I do, but the influx of cheap cheap, pseudo-slave labor is a constant threat to our kind now.
Sounds like he tried to do this the right way, by contacting the cities several times.
I'm sure he's getting sued for vindictive reasons, more like, "How dare he embarrass the city by exposing our security flaws, in the hopes that would pressure us to fix them after we did nothing from repeated warnings.... how DARE he???"
I've tried Xen. It is definitely not on the same level as VMWare. Perhaps this latest free version will allow clustering similar to KVM.
The only benefit to Xen is that it will load on almost any hardware.
Yes, Compute Magazine. I remember that fondly. Well, maybe not so fondly as I had to debug my code and find my typo amidst the lines of transcribed code. But it was an awesome way to learn the basics of programming and logic.
I never did beat that "Goldminer" game.... i remember that one most of all.
So, this effectively kills my ability to ebay off an old game I don't play anymore. Only 'big' stores will be able to sell used games after they remove the original buyer from the database? I can easily forsee many many people unable to play games because some minumum wage gamestop employee typoed a game's serial number or something.
Plus, you might as well paint a big bullseye on that database for hackers. Can you imagine all of xbox losing all it's user/game data at once.... lol
Oh, I can almost guarantee it will be an 'extra' charge. They know that sports fans who play fantasy football are fanatics and will pay just like meth users to get their new and improved 'fix'.
Just like how cable/dish have about 40% of the channels dedicated to ESPN and sports pay per view, MS knows the Sports fan will pay.
Dude I am right there with you on that one.
To date I'm still trying to find a good alternative to using a google account on my android. Looking at personal cloud servers to sync contacts/calendars/etc without having it filter through Google.
I"m almost 100% that Ubuntu will require you to create an 'ubuntu user account' to use the phone. Just like all other companies, the phone is just hardware, the real profit comes from dissecting all the user info that is gathered from its use.
I'm sure it sounds great. Until the minimum wage, data entry clerk doesn't match up the right photo to the right name and you are instantly cut off from all the things mentioned in the article. Unable to get a driver lic, can't open a bank account, can't go to a sporting event, can't get on the internet in order to send the emails needed to clear up the issue.
Oh - You must have taken over after I left my old company. How about those serial boards used to interface with SNA sessions for screen-scraping user info for the VRU system...? You have my sympathy.;)
I couldn't agree more.
This time, they want more scifi.... but next time, they may want more religious understanding (code for let's slip religion into public schools)

Unless it's Van Hagar... That would be a party. Anything else is a moving target.
How dare he tell the truth about our bedbugs.... Sue him!

They will bury it and cover it up with another made-up crisis.
File this one under "No...DUHHHHH"
"Sweet".... "Plus you get to choke a bitch with your mind" "Awesome" "And you get to wear a cape" "That's just boss"

> I've also never intentionally reduced anyone to tears.. Keep practicing. I promise you'll get there someday.
Or just use the Free Tool, Ninite. Ninite will install the classic shell back to win8 and win server 2013 for free and it works just fine.
If you hated the changes in 2008 Server..... just wait until you try 2013. Ohhhh just wait.

Seriously, if this is the worst thing you have happening in your life, then I think you are in pretty good shape.
Actually, I always thought the Soon-to-be-required RFID chip implanted at birth would be the 'mark of the beast'.
