I've twice had new admins (different admins) do 'chmod -R username.*' as root to try to change the ownership of a home directory, with the predicitable results. Both times I told the individual what he had done, and to go fix it. One asked me a couple questions, went off and fixed it. The other one disappeared for awhile, then when I eventually found him, he told me I had to fix it.
One was gone in less than a year, the other one is an excellent sysadmin at my company. Everyone makes mistakes. What makes a difference is how you respond to it, and if you learn from it.
I think this US request for facilitating jamming of the Galileo system lacks creativity.
A much more entertaining request would be for the US military to be allowed to change the signals in the event of enemy activity.
North Korea launches missile Washington DC is the target Update the satellites, informing them that Washington DC and Beijing China have switched places Fun ensues
The differences between the versions of the Hitchhikers Guide in its various formats were one of the great strengths of the franchise. There's no other contemporary story that I would read the book, read the scripts, listen to the recording, watch the movie, and watch the TV show. The little twists that DNA added or deleted made each new telling worthwhile.
I worry that whoever is tasked to write this new version will try to be "true to DNA's legacy", and not add anything to the new telling to distinguish it from the old.
the distinction is that you can run lights going 80 and not worry about getting a ticket. you just don't have any legal protection when grandma slams into your rig. If you didn't see her coming, you were not exercising 'due regard'
Does not matter where he got that information. It is not true (at least not in NY state).
Let's all say it together... "Due Regard"
Section 1104 of the NY Traffic code reads:
1104 Authorized Emergency Vehicles -
(a) The driver of an authorized emergency vehicle, when involved in an emergency operation, may exercise the privileges set forth in this section, but subject to the conditions herein stated.
(b) The driver of an authorized emergency vehicle may:
1. Stop, stand or park irrespective of the provisions of this title;
2. Proceed past a steady red signal, a flashing red signal or a stop sign, but only after slowing down as may be necessary for safe operations;
3. Exceed the maximum speed limits so long as he does not endanger life or property;
4. Disregard the regulations governing directions of movement or turning in specified directions.
(c) Except for an authorized emergency vehicle operated as a police vehicle, the exemptions herein granted to an authorized emergency vehicle shall apply only when audible signals are sounded from any said vehicle while in motion by bell, horn, siren, electronic device or exhaust whistle as may be reasonably necessary, and when the vehicle is equipped with at least one lighted lamp so that from any direction, under normal atmospheric conditions from a distance of five hundred feet from such vehicle, at least one red light will be displayed and visible.
(e) THE FOREGOING PROVISIONS SHALL NOT RELIEVE THE DRIVER OF AN AUTHORIZED EMERGENCY VEHICLE FROM THE DUTY TO DRIVE WITH DUE REGARD5 FOR THE SAFETY OF ALL PERSONS, NOR SHALL SUCH PROVISIONS PROTECT THE DRIVER FROM THE CONSEQUENCES OF HIS RECKLESS DISREGARD FOR THE SAFETY OF OTHERS.
Problem is that people forget that they phone is an instrument that they use during care. As an EMT I regularly call the hospital while treating a patient in the ambulance. The fact is people know to clean up there medical equipement, but often forget about the other equipment they use in the course of a call. Radios, pagers and cell phones and such should all be sanitized after any call they are used on.
MS IE is already the platform of choice. they won't pay because they don't have to. Maybe Eolas will sell them the license at a discount, just to try to squeeze a few bucks out of other browser makers being forced to try to keep up with IE.
The best opposition to this would be and Open Source BIOS. I've no idea if this is possible, likely, or already being done. It simply seems like the best response to DRM enabled BIOS.

The problem with this parallel, is that advancing technology has made it cheaper to produce professional looking movie, by using digital cameras and editing suites. It has actually reduced the number of people needed to make a movie.
With games, the advancing technology has made it more expensive to create a professional looking game. A professional looking game requires more people today than it did 10 or even 5 years ago.
do you think there are 20 people using Kazaa that aren't sharing copyrighted files? Funny that they all use the variations on the name 'munkeyspanker.' I am pretty sure I don't want to see any of the files those people are sharing.
They must set the sticky bit on all their directories.
We all know that business and industry has the Republicans in their back pockets. We sometimes forget that Hollywood has the Democrats in their back pocket.
At least business occassionally creates something of use to people.
Sounds like a lot of you people are doing things the NSA might be interested in. I could email every file I've ever touched to the NSA, and they still wouldn't care to notice me.
If I did have stuff the NSA might be interested in, I sure would not put it on a computer that was connected to the internet.
Weblogs are certainly the lowest common denominator of the web. Everyone has one, and most of them stink (to reference a well known simile).
But blocking them out of search results seems elitist. Do we only count the opinions of people who are technically savvy enough to use site creation tools? Why not block out sites created with MS Front Page? Obviously the opinions those people have are not worth counting
The case referenced in this article, Weblogs are probably the best gauge of what this made up phrase should mean. New phrases enter the lexicon through popular use, weblogs are the popular voice on the web right now. Wasn't there a story on/. not long ago about using weblogs to measure marketing penetration of new campaigns? Pretty similar concepts if you ask me.

Hmmm The RIAA does seem to think itself divine in nature. Perhaps you can convince them of this God analogy.

Don't forget that you could still say 'You can't get a viruse just by reading email.' That's just a hoax.
Yes... Good Times.
I thought this was the reason that Verizon was the loudest opponent of number portability. Verizon has a large base of local telephone service.

Funny, that's where I keep my wife.
I spend most of my typing time at the unix command line or in chat rooms. How much time would DVORAK save me when all I type is ls -l and a/s/l?
The second superpower is in my pants.
If I had a weblog, I'd link to you.

That was the Wrath of Allah, Infidels!
Now, bring me my virgins.
