This is a 'troll'? Somebody must have changed the moderation guidelines again.
No, somebody just works for a telecom company and thinks net neutrality is a bad idea, so they're resenting the fact that bribery played a part in the legislation and are reacting to the presence of a fact they don't like.
Either that, or it's a paid proxy for a telecom company downvoting it. I believe I've noticed a trend on slashdot of downmoderation of comments opposed to institutions of the sort who hire propaganda people, but haven't done a thorough analysis so it's only anecdotal.
so we have shill mods now? Great wonder how much dice charges for those or are companies posting enough to get mods and then shilling with them?
All hail our next President. The Republicans will nominate someone who will look like Satan biting the heads off of babies and drinking their blood compared to Hillary.
So Hillary will be our next president. And because Manning embarrassed her with the leak, she's going to clamp down on what little freedoms we have left. She's going to make Obama look like he's been a huge support of freedom of expression and freedom of the press.
Maybe after 8 years of Hillary, we'll get someone who actually thinks our basic freedoms are a good idea.
I'll vote for a third party candidate as a protest. If enough people join me, maybe someone will notice.
As someone that is currently planning on voting 3rd party because the any of the major Rep candidates (other than Rand Paul and he won't get anywhere unfortunately) Looks just as bad, I doubt they will notice as the media purpose fully ignores or demeans any candidates without a D. or and R. after their name.
Using elitist words such as "dichotomy" won't make you smarter.
The word dichotomy is not elitist unless call having vocabulary with words consisting of more than two syllable elitist, in which case why don't you along with Ogg and Zog that Neanderthals crawl back into your hole and complain about all of those uppity big brained fire using Homo Sapiens.
Amazon wants to patent a bunch of random "done with a drone" type stuff
Except SCOTUS invalidated those kind of combination patents in KSR v Teleflex. You cannot get a patent for doing an old thing in a new way, unless there is something truly innovative.
Unless it is 'on a computer', or 'on the internet', or 'on a mobile device' or you name is apple.
yes but intel cant know where every chip they make goes without putting a gps in every cpu the ship so buying through a third foreign party could very well work and due to first sale doctrine intel and by extension the us gov has no controll over where they go.
Wrong the Intel chip fabs are mostly located in located in the US (8 of them formerly 9) along with 1 in Ireland, 1 in China and another 1 Israel. What the US thinks they are going to do banning their export from the American fabs is going to do when they could just ship them from the ones in Israel Ireland and the local one in China is beyond me.
I did this to a friend, on his Christmas computer. Him, his father and his Marine buddies all seriously contemplated killing me. They were utterly furious and I didn't return for a long time. Of course, the gentleman featured on the desktop were unclothed in addition, but aren't we all, in a sense? Good fun, indeed.
Reminds me of a friend who was tired of his neighbor using his wifi so rather than putting a password on it, like a normal person, he instead used mac filtering to redirect all requests originating from unrecognized mac's to lemon party.
A rich person doesn't want to give you money just so you can turn around and use it to buy stuff from him. Nobody gets richer that way.
Really? you might want to tell Henry Ford about that. In fact their is an entire economic theory named after him because he did just that. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
Don't believe everything you read on Wikipedia. The idea that Ford paid his workers more so they could buy cars is so ridiculous it is hard to believe the myth has spread so widely. Well not so hard to believe since so many people want to find references that "prove" the opinion they already had. I guess by this logic Boeing should raise their workers' wages high enough that each of them could buy a new jetliner. What is Boeing thinking by leaving those potential orders unfulfilled?
This article debunks this silly myth more thoroughly than I could in a Slashdot post.
That is a false dichotomy and you know it. Firstly jetliner’s aren't a consumer item cars are. Secondly his auto workers were not the sole consumers of the Model T but it was set at a price point his workers could afford.

I know it bothers some people, but I use the singular "they" for a gender neutral third person pronoun. I think once a person gets used to it they will prefer it to "he or she".
No because 'they' is plural those leading to more ambiguity. If you want a neuter third person use 'It' as it is the neuter second person in English.
Fortunately WiFi cards in most laptops can be replaced. It may require a complete tear down to get to it but it can be done
That is not true if you use Lenovo.
Lenovo doesn't want customers to be able to upgrade their laptops, so they implemented a list of approved mini-pci cards that can be used in them. It's called "bios whitelist".
Therefore if you have a Lenovo laptop you will have to change the whole laptop. Presumably to a different brand that doesn't pull this crap.
For those who do. Not.
That is F*cking ridicules. Guess I will have to add Lenovo to the list of Companies to never buy hardware from.
Sorry, but Amazon took over the market by operating at a deficit for decades. I've heard that they are still operating at a deficit, which, if true, is frankly amazing. How *do* they stay in business.
When most companies use this policy (pricing below the cost of service) the governments put them out of business. Somehow Amazon is allowed to "prosper". (I'm not sure that proper is the right term if they're actually still operating at a deficit. I know they did for over a decade, as there used to be many financial people commenting about it.)
they aren't operating at a deficit per say they make lots of money but they reinvest all of their profits back in to r&d, infrastructure, and expanding into new areas, so they make no net profit but aren't exactly at a loss either.
Gay/straight/trans/whatever all get a civil union where 2 people cotractually agree to act as a single legal unit form most purposes. Marriage defined as a religious union between X number of people with no legal recognition, so gay straight trans whatever can get it by simply finding a religious group that accepts them as a valid union between them and their deity/being/force/purpose/pantheon of choice.
First we have to figure out a way to make ship captains not drag their anchors behind their ships constantly. The number of undersea cables cut by these bozos is just depressing.
"God does not play dice with the universe; He plays an ineffable game of His own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any of the other players(everyone else), to being involved in an obscure and complex version of poker in a pitch-dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a Dealer who won't tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time" ---Terry Pratchett.
Thank you. And you notice how many just gloss over the fact that despite all their "GNU" talk when push comes to shove they throw their convictions right out the windows for better performance?
This is why I think Linux is gonna bleed users after the Win 10 release, I have a feeling most aren't giving as shit about free as in freedom, just free as in beer and with Win 10 being the latter all those bullshitters talking FOSS and GNU are gonna quietly slink away and get their free Win 10 and see the proprietary is faster without all the BS and just not come back.
Why would I ever do tha?t As it stands now I have several legitament free windows keys for the last 5 of so windows desktop OS's and keys for several of the server releases none are used exsept for one WinXP key for VMs and and my duel boot Linux WinXP destop for visual studio. My servers my laptop my other destops run Linux exlusivly. I am likely to never going back to windows without a major reason.
If it's like the Ford model that had a similar feature a few years ago, it's controlled by which key you use - regular key, valet key, teenager key. Yeah, most teens could easily swap keys with Mummy or Daddy, but then Mummy and Daddy will start getting warnings when they speed or play the radio too loud.
only if the teen isn't smart enough to only use the parent key to deactivate the limits on the teen key then return the parent key.
Keeping politics local means less oppression
never had a Home Owners Association where you live I see

How is this different from what ICANN did when tried to get every major brand to pay them $185.000 for a gTLD?
because that was them doing it so it was okay...right?

Have cable or satellite TV? 90% chance it's using a Power cpu.

mines.
Along with the LSD tripping Dr. Walter Bishop. Much better series, except for the last season where it got ridiculous.
I really liked the last season of fringe it was like Xfiles and Halflife 2 had a baby.
God does play dice with the universe.
Or at least, marbles.

I think that was the GP's point. Why would Nintendo feel any obligation to save Apple?
