I was hardly appearance. It would keep spitting out temp directories until it ran out of inodes. Exiting freed them all up. Granted, that involved leaving it up for days, but it was a real problem for me.
I don't understand everyone's antagonism. I liked Netbeans, I just saw a number of very real bugs with it (just under 3 years ago). If it works for you, great. I may even check it out again someday. That doesn't mean I didn't have the problems I had.
For me the gold standard will always be Intellij. I liked Netbeans the last time I tried it a couple of years ago, but it was too buggy for regular use (like creating thousands of temp directories for no reason). I use Eclipse for specialized development since many vendors will provide plugins that make it worth it (barely). But I always come back to IntelliJ for its more intuitive handling. It's simply the best IDE I've used in any language.
Perhaps they are. I used to be a Seagate only guy before they went down the toilet with that whole firmware fiasco. Been buying Samsung and WD ever since. I guess I'll have to grab a few more Samsungs before Seagate starts screwing them up too.
I make a mistake and buy a Bluray every once and a while. Bought a couple last weekend in fact. And once again I was reminded of how frustrating it is to sit through "cool" menus, studio identifications, previews, FBI warnings, and then more studio identifications. By the time the actual movie starts, I'm usually doing something else. I can probably download a 720p copy of the movie in that time. It take me less than ten button clicks (and seconds) to start one of my library rips.
Oh and then there are the exclusive blurays that you can't even buy, like Avatar in 3D (unless you have a Panasonic TV). And the half-assed transfers that you just know will be superceeded by something better if you wait. And then there are the $40 blurays, which I'm just not gonna bother with. Gimme a break!
I uninstalled Pandora from my phone the second they wanted permissions to access my calendar. I don't care so much that they know who my contacts are, but the details of my personal appointments are much more sensitive. Still, I knew the price and was free not to pay it. It's not like Android doesn't warn you when the permissions change.
God yes! Most corporate jobs are about helping management do their busy work while you fight in vain to get some of the actual work for the product done. I'd say about 90% of what every major corporation does is unproductive BS to help justify some execs job. And I'd say about 90% of the projects I've worked on get thrown out before ever going to production because of management constantly side-tracking us with their brilliant "ideas," turning 3 month projects into 3 year projects.
People are so hyper about drinking and driving, which is often tragic, but mostly goes unnoticed and without incident. From what I've observed, people on cell phones are even more dangerous and absent minded behind the wheel. I'm not sure that I'm for a ban, but I find it hypocritical to condemn one action while implicitly endorsing the other (so long as you aren't using this app, of course).
Actually, I did stop pirating music once 256kps drm-free mp3s came along. It's just no longer worth the effort. If they become sensible with video, they'll probably get me to stop there too.
But then I never saw it as a war until today. Convenience and saving a buck were my reasons for it in the past. But now there's so much cross-pollination between the government and the MPAA/RIAA, and the industry have used this to build upon patriot act wiretapping provisions, that I'll never be able to support them again. Even if they come up with the perfect DRM scheme, I'll just move on to some other form of entertainment. Hollywood's creative days are obviously behind them anyway.
Just mount the flash drive and put a bullet in your computer's monitor. If it works for hard drives in the movies, then it should work for solid state as well.
...is a stable regulatory environment. It's the constant changing of the rules that keeps employers from hiring, not a lack of green technology. I'm sick and tired of Democrats and Republicans using the Treasury as a credit card for their buddies.
If their entire strategy is to play catch up with Chrome, then why shouldn't I just use Chrome? I've only been using it as a secondary browser and stories like this make me feel it should be my primary.
What tics me off about the post office is that the government can mandate a do not call list and institute the can-spam act to keep businesses from harassing me, but then they won't play by the same rules. The 5-10 lbs of junk mail I get a week requires FAR more effort for me to deal with than filtering e-mails or hanging up on telemarketers. Especially since they don't require envelopes and everything is just one big mess. Sometimes I even miss legitimate bills because they get lost in all the junk. At least with a PC, I have a choice not to buy it. With mail, I have no choice. The government simply mandates that I spend an hour or two sorting through ads every week.
Yes, their developer site is phenomenal and should be held up as a reference for how to properly document an API. It really does encourage me to write android apps. Now if I only had the time.
It's because of the "who you know" mentality that I am a libertarian. I know those crooks in Washington are going to take my money and give it to their friends, instead of using it in my best interests. The rich use the government to solidify their position. You are paying for their multi-million dollar bailouts because the government is making you, not because they are. It has been determined that they are too rich to fail, and government will make you bail them out of their bad bets (preventing nature from taking its course with these parasites).
The quicker people start contemplating that alternative, the quicker we get through this mess and back on our feet. There will be a collapse. How do you want the country to look after that? And what lessons will we have learned when it comes time to rebuild?
Is it not what's happening? Can I really refuse to pay the portion of my taxes that will go to bailing these funds out and not have to worry about people with guns coming to my door? Is that what you truly believe? If so, you should give a try sometime.
Don't worry. The financial services industry is itself a huge bubble which will pop within five years.

Are they expecting the average quality to go up?

Columbine, Oklahoma City, Hitler's birthday and some strange smell in the air every year.

Do you have a source for Jefferson's retraction? I'm having trouble finding it through google. Thanks!

A good technical person that can also schmooze, sell and build relationships is worth their weight in gold.
If you're really offering me $3.8 million, then I can work on expanding my skill set.

Have you ever wondered what would happen if everyone wrote in "none of the above?"
We already know. You'd end up with Richard Pryor as the next President of the United States.
Granted, he killed slightly less than Khan, but now that he has Lincoln and Surak to back him up...

What's missing is that it's not Microsoft Silverlight. Netflix doesn't use flash. I would imagine there was some backroom deal there.
There is a silverlight clone for linux, but it doesn't do DRM.
