Why assume that being honest means being a dick? Perhaps it's really a dick move (aka selfish) to look out for only your own best interest and ignore what would be best for your friends/ex-coworkers. What if it would be better for everyone else if you did the tough thing and professionally and honestly voiced what's "really going on"? Being professional is simple and being honest is easy; pulling both off at the same time is challenging. I believe that's why so many managers are akin to the devil. Like many others have pointed out, it is almost never advisable from a selfish standpoint to do such a thing: It almost certainly can't help you--but it can hurt you.

I'd like to think that there is a time and a place for a voice of reason. I fully realize that being truthful in my pending exit interview* likely will not help me in the future, but I do hold out hope that it will help someone else.

    * The pending exit interview shall happen when I find a new job, which has not happened yet.

If it were the "norm" for a large number of people to carry, and such a thing was common knowledge, it might have made him think twice about performing his cowardly act to begin with. If everyone and their dog carried a gun, would he really have felt that much more powerful walking in with a couple rifles and body armor, knowing that perhaps 50-60 of those that he was terrorizing carried?

First of all, that "stat" is inherently false. Second, such decisions are almost always made managers. Managers in most organizations are not technical; they are easily convinced by the pretty marketing pictures. Microsoft is very good at such things, which likely has more merit to their success than the product itself (in the corporate world, anyways).

PHP runs as a module inside the web server, just like Python Server Pages, Java Server Pages, etc. Wow, I can't believe I'm replying to this. Not to mention, it is also an awful language with no consistencies even between what seem like similar functions. It plain sucks and suggesting it as a "starter language" for a programmer-to-be is both irresponsible and mean.

In contrast to WAMP, download Python, load a couple of modules (CherryPy + Jinja2 come to mind) and you're all set. It's its own web server. How simple is that? These are tools that greatly encourage MVC development. Learning Python or Ruby has the advantage of teaching someone how to program as opposed to how to make stuff show up on a web page. PHP encourages messy, unmaintainable code, which is the opposite of languages like Python and Ruby.

Lastly, Facebook uses PHP because it just happened to "start out" as a PHP site, not because it was the right tool for the job. As such, their performance and no doubt, their maintainability, has been a huge issue as they've been growing.
