If we can get a "banner head" in the 3D open source community it will do great things. There is currently the "Wings 3D" project which is a work off of sorts from the Nendo software. -- I believe that given a long enough timeline opensource solutions can surpass the solutions we have today. -- It just becomes a matter of how long that timeline is. -- Anyway... I use Mainly Lightwave 3D.... but if the opensource comunity can create a competitor to even the very largest packages... (Maya, 3DS, XSI, Lightwave)... then it can only do good things to the pricing of these applications as a whole. --- The next few years in 3D animation are going to be exciting even without the opensource trends... but these projects... (blender,Wings...)... I think are going to make things even more interesting to the industry as a whole.
In theory.. if this planet was oscillating between our sun.. and another star... it would have to move so far out that on a 3,500 year eliptical orbit it would be moving so fast and so straight at us... we would only see it at most 3 months before it made it's nearest passing point. Also... lots of stuff passes by the earth and we miss it except for when it's on it's way back out again. We don't observe much of the sky for such things.
Terrance McKenna had developed a way to map out the flow of entropy and novelty as it ebb'ed it's way though history. Under his calculations.. he says novelty hits an infinate spike in 2012. He states his research was done with no knowledge of the Mayan Calandar that ends on the same date. (which kept track for 5000 years before that.). Some suspect that there is another planet out there on a 3,500 year orbit named "Niburu" which is set to return at that same time. w00t! -- 2012 could be very exciting..
Can you do data calls over a voice line that is a voice over data line? -- Err could my TiVo's modem dial out over this thing so I could get rid of my phone line?
When the encoding is hacked... and we all have readers, and transmitters.... I could grab codes just by shacking hands with someone. This very tech could change our whole social customs when it is taught to kids, "Don't shake hands with someone unless you know them."
"You will serve me a Big Mac Meal with a Coke!" (While waving your hand like a Jedi Knight using the Jedi Mind trick)." How is this different than what I do already?
I believe that in the end Rambus may be the better product but it's the way Rambus (Co) ran it's busisness that makes this happy news for me. Are the voices of the geeks who pay attention to this partly to blame for Rambus going out? -- I'd like to think we played a part in it.:)
Because the URL for the link is actually (href= ""). Most browsers asume that you just want to stay where you are in that situation. It isn't *actually* pointing to Slashdot. Even still though I imagine it was not intentional.
Humans will eventually take evolution into their own hands through the use of psychadelics, cybernetics, and Gene Mutation. I'm actually excited about this as I think it will happen over the next 80 years at an accelerated rate. Evolution often happens with "points of critical mass"..or something like that in which all is still untill some disaster stikes or a turning point is reached. Personally I think telepathy will be the next major evolutionary leap. Who would want to mate with someone that couldn't use telepathy? -- I think it is comming sooner than later too. -- Yea... going out a bit on the line I am... but it is my truth.:)
Personally I think this is great. In a minimalist sort of way I really dig these sorts of things. I dig monitors in my room that show the airplanes in the skies.... I dig 4 measure beat clips playing on a speaker in the corner in the bathroom really softly.... I dig old laptops playing Sim City (black and white) with the time slowed down to real-time... or on normal and let people check on the village when they come over and visit. I could see myself setting up a little speaker somewhere just to play back the linux kernal. I am actually excited.:)
I dunno... I'm betting most of the Slashdot'ers can recognize marketing speak. It's strange hearing that language spoken now since the dot bomb. Almost like speaking the language of Mordor. A language I will not utter here.:)
"You can buy a PC with a flat-panel display and a built-in DVD burner for around $1,800, the same as the equivalent iMac. But it won't work as well. In part, that's because Apple gives away a number of core programs (iTunes, iMovie, iDVD and, starting this week, iPhoto) that allow you to control your creative life. They do what other PC software does. But they do it better."
No need to worry. (seriously) Sigh.. why is it *everytime* I mirror something an AC comes by and says it's the goatse link? -- At least think of something original.. seriously.. it's been going on for years.
is the fixed resolution they come with. Many applications I use for 3D require at a minimum 1280X1024, but work best at 1600X1200. So I wouldn't say that slow draw is the only problem, as this site states.
Most of Paypal's profits come from busisness to busisness transactions and even bank to bank. Most people only think of the small transactions from consumers but paypal actually eats a bit of money there. They are actually on their way to profitability anyway... this just sweetens the pot. Ever since they signed E-Bay as a partner things rocked for em.
Prices start at $700 for a 40 hour unit and max out at $2000 for a 320 hour unit. -- According to their site. --- A bit pricier than a TiVo, but these obviously have more features aswell.

What season was that episode from? --- Heh.. worth buying that season just for that episode. ;)
A DVD burner is squeezed into the high-end $1,800 model. ($1800)

Net instability can also be predicted if Slashdot links to a .... well anything.
The satalite thing is cool.
