What about the possiblilty of lasers that don't need amplification? I know there are supposedly some systems that can drive OC-192 over 3000-4000 km without regeneration. That stuff will probably first be deployed underwater, but eventually it will hopefully hit land.
They said "thirty days to come up with a fix." The vendor first has to respond and acknowledge there is a problem. If they don't do that, then details may get released sooner.

It's Solaris 7. It came preloaded, so I didn't ask.
If I remember correctly, Solaris 8 was actually free for up to 8 CPUs.
