This is actually not true anymore. With the new genration (explorer 3.0, logitech dual optical) alot of pros play with optical especially in Counter-strike (The world champions NIP mostly use explorer 3.0 for an example). Alot of the Quake players are also shifting to optical.

If you search for slashdot on google you get an "Google is hiring!" ad. Now that is targeted advertising.
