What a Douchey thought that half would have been. This Woman is a Grade A+ Fucking Hero. She tried applying the idea of non-violence in a situation where there are no other ideas or current hope. Unfortunately for everyone, she failed because the situation is just that dire. Naive or not, she was absolutely right to try.
Cynic or not, we at least have to be able to identify True Fucking Heroism when it sporadically pops up.
Hopefully vim is actually trying to underscore how poverty affects the emergence of disease instead of implying something akin to racism. The point of my comment was trying to highlight some kind of critter that takes advantage of the overall similarity of the 7 billion mobile bags of food. Not racial differences to disease.
Doritos and poofs must not have too toxic an effect, or no one would post to/.
Is it possible to equate the Human population with that of mono-culture farming. I'm sure there is a lot wrong with the analogy, but that is a lot of ecosystem for something to chomp through.
Don't mono cultures almost inevitably fail in dramatic fashion? (Surely I'll be called stupid for even thinking this way, but it is a real question).
With antibiotics failing us in piecemeal fashion, this is actually quite frightening.
Destroy Android or fund research for vaccines that don't require refrigeration?
Say what you will about Gates, but his targeted spending of most of his vast wealth should be mentioned more than what he did at the company he hasn't been at the helm of since 2000, (2008 if you need to nitpick).
Most assuredly you have to have asshole qualities to reach Gates' or Jobs' stature, but what each intend(ed) to do with BILLIONS says a lot about each character.

Look at that taskbar. Just add the compositing transparency and it's the Win7 taskbar, which I set to autohide and actually like.
Don't shoot me for that. I'm actually transitioning to CrunchBang and am quite happy coding with that. Actually tried a lot of different distros. Unity seems a mess for the week I tried, because I have to conform to its workflow instead of the other way around. Might be a great tablet OS, but feels arrogant on the desktop.
KDE's lead graphic artist, IMO, really REALLY wishes they had Unicorns to ride. Slapdash mess there too. (Jesus Holy Chocolate Buggering Buddha, why don't they get it over with and make the window shadow/glow take up the entire screen?)
Hedonismbot and his Concubots writhing in an oily robot orgy in front of the Westies? Aren't robots sexually ambiguous by nature? That should make their heads hurt, not knowing if there is homosexuality going on in front of them or not.
Pity this era of/. that no one will ever see the 2's, (and I will never get back the 1 I lost somehow to become a 1, the loneliest number)...
As a Vet myself, the Westies went over the line with the "innovation" of protesting Combat Casualties' funerals. Way, WAY over the line by trodding on the, (usually poor as in financial), very people who literally put their lives into a Meat Lottery and Lost, for the sake of their Country. Where are the distantly placed "Free Speech Zones" when it comes to a young Vet's funeral? Oh, the many levels of irony...
Now they are going to possibly make a splash by protesting a wealthy man's funeral who did not give his platform over wholly to their chosen godhead. Bet there will be some kind of intervention to get them to stop, or have a conveniently located (5 miles away) Free Speech Zone, so as not to disturb the funeral.
Guess I'm a little too enraged to even make a point here other than this:
Stupid and Proud can only get you so far. And when you get there you blow your stupid up and get it spread far and wide.
You know that there is going to be someplace where people vigil tonight and start leaving some kind of token. I wonder what it will be a "mountain of" by the end of the week outside Apple HQ?
Thanks for making an impact Steve. I only wish you had taken the Gates path and brought some of your vision and tenacity to philanthropy. Imagine what the rivalry on that front could have wrought.
Empathy to all of his loved ones, Blood & Otherwise...
Today is an interesting intersect of how Apple releases products, media boredom & follow on, and Jobs leaving. Awful lot of hype building up to an imaginary iphone 5, and then this collective letdown because it looks the same and isn't a new number.
I've been hearing this argument lately and don't agree with the sentiment. Being blind or blase about how 1 President crushed his own country with 8 years of record setting spending is not a cliche. It is a tragedy that will unfold over generations.
America seems quite practiced at continually taking it up the money hole and then blaming the wrong people.
"Game shows broadcast live, such as Major League Baseball, National Football League, National Hockey League, and National Basketball Association, draw appointment viewers despite their annual hiatuses."
Very good point. Thanks for that perspective. Forgot about live events...
Personally, I am going to blame the messenger, i.e. Nielsen. Shows that trend towards tech savvy types will always struggle and die if the only emphasis is going to be on boxes that measure appointment viewing. I don’t have a box, so I don’t matter. If I don’t matter, why subject myself to appointment viewing commercials ALONG with the obvious product placement?
If modern HD TVs are are just another computer screen, what is in store for appointment viewing as we undergo generational attrition?
For me, modern television is going through the same death spiral that modern commercial music is going through. My music interests have gone entirely independent of the big music labels because of the crap they pull and produce. The more they dumb down, the less of my attention they get. Viewing numbers will distribute across the hundreds of channels of reality programming and the few die hards will congregate around the few bright spots of fictional storytelling while they last. (You should prepare for vastly smaller seasons of shows, like the British models.)
I don’t matter, so why even try to make it through these endless show hiatuses that kill anything serialized? Why endlessly pine and dread if the uncounted just don’t matter?
Screw off Nielsen. Take your appointment viewing system and burn in hell for killing too many of my loved ones. I for one am finding it too painful to play with your stacked deck.
As a fan of the "Rambaldi" aspects of "Alias", I loved how that alone (Red Matter) tied into the ST reboot. I always wanted more Rambaldi story and that is what the reboot gave me a small bit of.
There needs to be a dedicated Rambaldi story so i can finally put it to bed!
I've only seen a few of the Colin Baker eps before I started from the beginning and haven't made it back. But the most unfortunate thing, outside of the series slide into cancellation, has to be that damned coat.
The 80's clothing culture should be tried for war crimes.
I have mental scars to serve as evidence at trial.
Wait a minute... Amy Pond speaks???? I'll have to check into that.
Her facial expressions are subdued, but I think it is because of youthful subcutaneous fat. I personally love the Scottish accent and haven't noticed any annoying compression on her voice. (But then again, I download, so I can't exactly say.)
Karen Gillan could read some random repair manual and I would still be hooked.
Been waiting to watch all of those shows, and I agree about the observation, just that for SciFi the golden age looks gone. ((FX isn't exactly a large but I do respect that they somehow get quality on par with HBO series. But they don't do SciFi : ( ))
Start with 2k5 Dr Who like people are recommending here, and then go back to the absolute beginning and watch. I'm still making my way through and enjoying it.
But if there is only one episode to NOT MISS it is "Blink", http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1000252/. I couldn't believe how absolutely perfect a Dr Who episode could be. I still get chills and teary eyed thinking about that episode. Not to be missed by any true fan of good writing and SciFi.
IMO: Best Doctor is Tenent. Best Companion by FAR is AMY POND.
As another side note, I curse you bastards who are recommending B5. I spent last summer gagging my way through that steamy turd of s series. Maybe 3 good eps in the entire run, and yes it is only my opinion. HOT CRISPY JESUS I curse those who recommend B5. I want that time back to watch something better, anything better, even LEXX!!! I trusted you bastards!!!
Just like Fringe is likely to get cancelled now, and how SG:U was cancelled. I agree that anything that isn't cookie cutter is dying on network TV. Sad that we can't have intelligent, big budget SciFi on anymore. After Fringe, will there be any "non jokey" SciFi left? (I'm not even interested in Fox trying dinosaurs instead of Fringe and syfy is just an embarrassment now.)
Big channels will just have crap cop procedurals, talent and reality. Smells of Telemundo and Univision, that. So sad.
Good SciFi is going to have to go down-channel and try to mimic the small channel success of Spartacus and The Walking Dead. Fewer episodes and smaller audiences, intelligent SciFi is only going to happen by accident. SciFi has historically been a slightly underground niche and it is fortunately/unfortunately returning there.

C'mon!
Does anyone remember the infomercials for Y2K boxed foods? Hawking MRE's against the backdrop of buildings falling and volcanoes erupting.
Generator sales were a humorous indicator, seeing as how most didn't also hoard fuel to the degree that would be needed.
Y2K volcanoes. Jesus...
Mod you up if I could.

Kind of funny, really.

"IOW, they're trying to make it a palin in the ass. ba-dum-pish"
This comes quite close to equating her with the squirts if "you have some Palin in your ass".
Hot, itchy, and rank media diarrhea seems apropos. You just want it to go away and it never seems to end quickly enough.
If it's good enough for Santorum, it's good enough for Palin.

If it is the new crap Chrome logo, they can have it...
And now that I just looked at it, c'mon, way too generic. (Which does make me think of the new, crap Chrome logo.)
AGREED! This was the scene where the new Doctor, I should say the actor playing the new Doctor, had my doubts put to rest.
Absolutely brilliant scene!
