    You hit the nail on the head. I don't agree with the entire Green Party platform, but their candidate was ARRESTED for trying to get into the debate. Why wasn't she (or any of the other 3rd party candidates) included? Because they are not high enough in the polls. Why aren't they polling well? I expect it's because they cannot get media coverage for love nor money.

    The whole damn political system is owned, rigged, and horribly corrupted. But because the worst of the corruption is legal, we're supposed to turn a blind eye to it.

    The problem with Romney isn't his intelligence or lack thereof, it's that he clearly ignorant (and either doesn't know or doesn't care that he's ignorant) of how the vast majority of the people who live in the country he wants to govern actually live. Obama may not be a very good President, and may have had certain advantages growing up, but he seems to at least have some clue as to how the average American lives.

    The problem with this approach is that you'll end up waiting until a few entrenched ISPs own every single bit of information that reaches your retinas and eardrums, and then realize they're an abusive monopoly.

    I love his work, but I have to say I found the Rifters trilogy to be even more depressing that Blindsight. All amazingly brilliant though. James Nicoll's quote is so marvelously apt.

    Except for the Roman Republic, classical Greece, medieval Iceland, and much of North American for most of history, just off the top of my head. I'm not saying these places were perfect mind you, but there's plenty of human history that doesn't revolve around autocracy.

    First, neither the National Review nor Mother Jones seem to think TARP has actually been paid back.

    Second, TARP itself was only a part of the bailout, estimates on total money given to the banks by the Federal Reserve run as high as $29 trillion.
