You hit the nail on the head. I don't agree with the entire Green Party platform, but their candidate was ARRESTED for trying to get into the debate. Why wasn't she (or any of the other 3rd party candidates) included? Because they are not high enough in the polls. Why aren't they polling well? I expect it's because they cannot get media coverage for love nor money.
The whole damn political system is owned, rigged, and horribly corrupted. But because the worst of the corruption is legal, we're supposed to turn a blind eye to it.
The problem with Romney isn't his intelligence or lack thereof, it's that he clearly ignorant (and either doesn't know or doesn't care that he's ignorant) of how the vast majority of the people who live in the country he wants to govern actually live. Obama may not be a very good President, and may have had certain advantages growing up, but he seems to at least have some clue as to how the average American lives.
The Second Jewish War, during the Roman Empire. The Jews of Cyrenaica, Cyprus, and Judea killed somewhere around a half-million Roman subjects and citizens.
The problem with this approach is that you'll end up waiting until a few entrenched ISPs own every single bit of information that reaches your retinas and eardrums, and then realize they're an abusive monopoly.
I love his work, but I have to say I found the Rifters trilogy to be even more depressing that Blindsight. All amazingly brilliant though. James Nicoll's quote is so marvelously apt.
Gotcha. I see the difference now. It's wrong to run WWII-style slave labor camps yourself, but it's fine to hire other people to run them for you. I'm glad you cleared that up for me.
Except for the Roman Republic, classical Greece, medieval Iceland, and much of North American for most of history, just off the top of my head. I'm not saying these places were perfect mind you, but there's plenty of human history that doesn't revolve around autocracy.

Like most stuff that comes out of Washington, it's pure shadow-theater. Or maybe just a bad clown show.
Forget the consultants, how about ditching the CEO and his $15 million in compensation?
Amen. Wishing I had mod points.
Fortunately, Firefox is well on it's way to helping destroy that idea.
lol. The 'genuises in office' are owned by the megacorps. We'll see patent reform only once the megacorps are dead and buried.
Does it burn Senators as fuel, or just throw the whole lot of them into orbit? I'm fine with either approach, but inquiring minds want to know!
It's in orbit. No apparent problems so far.
Is there any other First World country that's having this problem, or is this crackdown on unlimited data only going to happen in the United States?
And make up your own mind if Romney was joking:

Judge for yourself. My only comment is that IF he was joking, he really needs to work on his delivery.

They're already working on it.

Making pirated media superior to purchased media since 1999!

How many have you actually lived in? What's your basis for comparison?
How about having an expert panel actually review patent applications in the first place, and reject those that fail a real examination for prior art?
The problem with this approach is that you'll end up waiting until a few entrenched ISPs own every single bit of information that reaches your retinas and eardrums, and then realize they're an abusive monopoly.
Voting just encourages them.
If it is, I'm certain the Chinese will be happy to know. Especially the next time we shelter one of their dissidents at our embassy.

ME, Vista, The Search for Spock, and the Undiscovered Country.
First, neither the National Review nor Mother Jones seem to think TARP has actually been paid back.

Second, TARP itself was only a part of the bailout, estimates on total money given to the banks by the Federal Reserve run as high as $29 trillion.

So, yes, it does help to "read and understand the news instead of merely believing what you wish were true". You should try it sometime.
