  1. if you like widescreen dvds, netflix rules. on DVDs By Mail? · · Score: 1

i too have been using netflix for about 7 months. the queue, the convenience of always having a few dvds sitting on top of my dvd player waiting to be watched, and no late fees adds up to an unbeatable service.

besides, now that blockbuster is no longer stocking the widescreen versions of new releases, renting at blockbuster is not an option.

my only gripe with netflix when i started was that they didn't have any east coast warehouses... so my turn-around time was long. but about 2 months ago they opened up a warehouse in new york, and now my turn-around time is great (i'm in nj).

a few times dvds didn't arrive. i simply went to their site and indicated it and they automatically sent a replacement. no problem. i think you would have to have an inordinate number of lost dvds before they even questioned it.

    thumbs up for netflix.

  2. Register.com is guilty of this too... on Verisign Ordered to Stop Deceptive Renewal Notices · · Score: 1

Register.com does the exact same thing. I have a domain registered with Verisign that is coming due next month. I received mail from Register.com that states in big letters:

"You must renew your domain name" (then in smaller letters) "...or you could lose it. We've made it easy for you, and included a transfer offer that could save you over $90."

    Just as bad...

  3. Best Marker = No Marker on This Place is Not a Place of Honor · · Score: 1

Really... this was the subject of a Discovery Channel documentary years ago.... the conclusion then was any marker, no matter how it was designed, would simply attract attention and invite digging.

the best marker is no marker, except for some basic markings underground at the site... nothing above ground that would attract so much attention.

  4. Re:XBox is already killed... on Playstation 3 In the Works · · Score: 1

Ah.... to be young and ignorant. It always ammuses me when fanboys rip other consoles. What causes it exactly, jealousy or fear?

Since you asked, there are over 60 games released for the XBox so far. XBox has killer exclusives like Halo (simply the best FPS ever) and Jet Set Radio Future... killer titles coming out in the next few months (ie Brute Force)... and consistently has the best versions of every multiconsole title released (Tony Hawk 3, Spiderman, etc.).

XBox Live (the online service) is coming THIS summer.

Oh.... and when not gaming, I can use the XBox as a digital audio jukebox, that just happens to be conveniently hooked up to my doolby 5.1 surround sound setup, and play any of the 2000 songs I have ripped on there.

  5. Re:Probably won't work on Gamespot Goes to Subscription Model · · Score: 1

It will indeeed work. After all how many print magazines are you willing to pay for? Each magazine doesn't need everybody subscribing to it... they just need enough to make a profit. Same with web sites. Content web sites are no different than magazines.

In five years the web will look a lot different. Major players with quality services that people are willing to pay for (and that use the web simply as a distribution channel), and loads of small, independent, and amateur sites run simply for the love of it.
