I have seen various linux distributions come with various crappy media players - none of which compare to mplayer. Is there ever going to be support for mplayer (with libavcodec) on distribution cd's without having to download/configure it myself, since it appears not to be on the latest(and best) distro I have seen to date.
Why on earth does everybody preach about how 'free' linux is, when MS is just as free. How many non-aol/dell/compaq customers actually purchase MS software - the answer is just about zero.
So why dont the Namibia guys do this ?? Its not like MS is going to sue them or anything, just imagine the news headlines - "MS sues poor african schools for not paying licensing fees after donating computers to them"
wouldn't it have been better to use the linux kernel source code instead of the works of shakespeare, assuming of course that his job involves a lot of programming.
please dont forget regional users.
I live on kangaroo island, off the coast of south australia, and we dont have access to anything except dialup. 2-way sattelite is a new option just emerging, but looking at the prices here you can see that this is indeed not an option at all.
$AU450/month for 3gb, ADSL costs $89 a month for exactly the same service (without shit latency too).
You can see that telstra in australia screws just about everybody. For those that dont know, 2/3 of telstra has been privatised and the other 1/3 is going to be shortly. We will see many more/. posts about our shit telecommunications if this happens.
I guess I'm stuck with this shit dialup for another 10 years - at least you have a half-reasonable choice.
they say in the article that it may affect our outside lifestyle.
oh no!! does that mean that everyone will be staying indoors? Will this lead to a massive surge of traffic over our already frail infrastructure?
oh crap!
for having a good computer!
how about feeling for all those people out there that can't play the new games and stop whinging about the fact that you can't get leisure suit larry working.

now that would be funny.

More specifically:
General - "Get Bill Gates in here"
General - "you told me windows 98 would be faster and more reliable with better access to the internet"
Gates - "It is over 1 million..."

Michael Jackson's "Methods and Means for Creating Anti Gravity Illusion" should be on there

If the project costs 45k to build, what is the launch cost??
Surely money would be better spent on making the system more reliable, than to waste it on an unsuccessful launch.
