CSR Hebel ... bricks 2 meters by 1 meter by 10 cm ... each weigh about 80Kg ... two guys can put up a brick in 20 minutes ... it ataches directly to a frame (wooden or metal)

on a concrete slab my pa and I can put up frame, hebel, corners and a couple of RSJ's in a day ... it just requires some planning and good teamwork (and a nice day)

forgot to mention ... do you know how to update telephone frame documentation? If you screw it up the next guy will want to wring your neck.

And don't even let me begin telling you about the big company I used to work for who still had "twist and solder" frames in their basement ... with ecommerce websites running across internet connections terminated through them ... UGH!

And, yes, Austel can fine you and enforce compliance ... been there once (although not for cabeling) ... cost the company a lot to meet compliance requirements.

  3. Hmmmm ... not quite on AU Regulations on LAN Cabling? · · Score: 4, Informative

I am an Australian Network engineer (LAN and WAN) and have done a lot of work in/with the telecommunications sector.

The requirement actually is "thou shal not connect anything to the PSTN" which is not austel approved and/or installed by a licenced installer. You can do anything you want with your LAN, you can do anything you want with your telephone cabling on your companies side of the PABX ... but you are not allowed to play with the PSTN side.

But, get your cabeling done by pros unless you know what you are doing. Ask yourself these quick questions:

Do I know when to use single core cable rather than 3 strand (and can I tell the difference between the RJ connectors for them)?
What is the maximim distance for an ethernet cable run?
Do I understand how to terminate cables and their wiring patterns?
Do I know how to test a wiring run?

If you didn't answer an emphatic yes to all those q's get the pros in. If you want to play at cabel monkey do it at home.

You must use a patent attorney ... why ... cause when YOU fuck it up and loose your patent and money because you did not use a professional you will look like a complete moron who got what he deserved.

"so I want to set up a website ... all those profesional web developers charge huge and varying money ... can't I just do it for nix ... HTML looks easy after all" ... fast forward 3 months and then they wonder why their site has security holes, looks like shit, gets hacked etc. Do you see the parallels

Moral of the story ... if it is worth doing do it properly. Spend the money on a professional ... don't do a half ass job your self.

BTW IAAL (I am a lawyer) ... well, almost (1 year away from being one) and studying IP law right now ... and from a family working in Patent law. (although I have spent the last 7 years installing networks). Get on with your programming and leave the lawering to the lawyers

45 knots is like over 80 kph. and if you look at the pictures it is doing this on a beat ... ie it is headding into the wind. and it has an asymetrical spinaker pole so on a beam reach with an a1 kite (the biggest asymetrical sail for a bit of a broad reach) this thing will kill it.

Any slashdot readers who have been keeping up with the round the world races will see that this thing rocks. I have only a cuple of questions ... what happens when it hits a BIG wave ... the mega cats competing in the race didn't fare well in the open ocean and this thing looks even more delicate. Or when it hits a whale (I am not kidding ... it happens) I can forsee a serious fiberglass repair bill for someone

the only remaining question is what will my yacht club (the CYCA for any aussies) do when I turn up for a race in something like this ... I think they will shoot me (or tell me that they don't allow multihuls to compete)
