I don't think there's been anything official about a new TV series. The impression I got was that if the film is a success, a new series could be in the pipeline.

  6. Too similar to everything else? on Programming Ruby · · Score: 2
Echoing the sentiment of others here, I feel Ruby doesn't offer any great benefits over other, more established languages (Perl, Python...). The list of differences between other languages is far from conclusive: 'Ruby scripts tend to be less cryptic [than Perl]'. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it is possible to write readable code in any language. Similarly it's also possible to write incomprehensible code.

By the by, I think I've found the last remaining permutuation: I propose a new language: 'Polly'.
Yes, this innovative language, incorporating the best features of Perl, Python, (Visual) BASIC, Assembler... is not only readable, but can also be easily started by shouting 'Wake up polly' and bashing your computer off a wooden bench.

  9. Censorship Doesn't Work! on Censorware to be Mandatory in Schools, Libraries · · Score: 1
My School has a censored Internet feed and frankly it is hopeless. It filters out websites randomly, it would seem, and blocks useful educational resources.

Indeed it didn't take a genius to 'evade' the software. I created a remotely hosted perl script which would relay data back from a denied website, with a simple Caesar cyper to seemingly garble the html content. (It worked like a charm)

Of course, I quickly deleted this script! But the principle remains:

Censorship does not work! Of course certain web sites should have restricted access, but, until we have an intelligent AI filter program which WORKS, this cannot be done effectivly.

  10. Another OS? on Tutoring A Child Prodigy? · · Score: 1
It seems to me that writing a new OS seems quite unneccesary - introduce him to the concepts yes (perhaps looking at Linux for ideas). Get him to have a look at SourceForge for some ideas and get him to contribute.

That way he'll hopefully learn many new techniques and benefit us all!

  12. Metric/Imperial Weights in EU on Will America Ever Go Metric? · · Score: 1

While the US has yet to embrace the metric system, we in the UK have it thrust upon us by European Law. A fruit-seller where I live has been taken to court for selling his produce in lb's and ounces! I do believe metric is a far better system, but what utter nonsense!
