Nah, you're not an arrogant prick.
I've never read any of the Harry Potter books. And I don't watch tv either.
So, maybe I'm just an arrogant prick too.;)
Oh, great. Here come all of the half-baked "I've seen too many episodes of the X-files" conspiracy theorists out of the woorworks.
It's not surprising I don't see a single comment modded as Insightful.
When are they going to resurrect a big gaping monument to Veteran Goatse?
They shouldn't be wasting their cash on stupid video games. What do you people want, more school massacres?
This is just a substitute for people who aren't talented enough to play a real instrument.
Oh, wait a minute, isn't that the entire basis for Punk rock?
S'cuse me..

As for why I chose not to ignore your comment. Well, let's just say that you're special. Rawrrr.

"but I think that even if John Q Public knows nothing about open source, if the services he uses are running open source, it doesn't matter."
Now that is just plain ignorant. And it's exactly why Windows users have come to be regarded as sheep. Oh, well, "It doesn't matter how or why it works, as long as it works".
Those of us who like to hack and tinker aren't buying it.
It's not a matter of, "do they support their product adequate support?", it's, "Do they give their product enough thorough testing before they ship it out the door in the first place?".
I mean, really. Spotting a faulty hinge design should have been an easy one.
The other suggestions in the thread suggest how to remove it from startup. It looks like MS went to great pains to ensure you can't remove it.
Anyways, here goes:
Search for a file called sysoc.inf and open it with a text editor. Look for a line with MSMSGS in it and remove word "hide" from the line(leave commas where they are). Then save the file.
Then go into control panel -> add/remove programs -> add/remove windows components and you'll see it in the list. Simply check and remove. Done.
As far as I've seen so far, removing it hasn't impacted any software on the OS, so don't buy any bullshit MS might give you about the flaming end of your OS as a result of removing one component.;p~
Don't forget to add "kill the president" to your wordlist. That will be sure to get their atte..Err. Could you hang on a minute? I hear a knock at the door.
..oh shit..

"Isn't it true, that when installing windows XP you are promted to create a passport?"
I'm running Windows XP, and although it asked me if I *wanted* to create a passport, I wasn't force to, and declined to do so. I haven't been prompted since.
And I don't know why people are making such a big deal about.Net integration with Windows XP. I've seen not one trace of.Net so far, and my OS experience hasn't suffered because of the lack of it.
Everything is just fine, and the OS has full functionality without.Net or Passport.
Lord knows they could use the work.

Yes! Oh, yes! I will marry you!
So now Linux can suck twice as much!
Believe me, it's entirely possible.

Actually, it's full now.
I just took a piss in it.

Not uncommon to lose a GIG or three?!
Holy shit. And I was pissed when I lost 7 megs off my 60 gig drive from formatting.
No, anyone with -110 karma is doomed to post at -1. ;)
Surprisingly enough, I get modded up every once in a while regardless of the name.

...most of us chose to ignore you anyways.
But this troll would have been a bit more convincing without the Adequacy.org link in your sig.
Better luck next time, though.

Not to mention The Cloak, which also offers encryption.
Why not? Afterall, it IS the patriotic thing to do! ;)

Meh, at least that goes away. It could have been much worse. ;p~
