This cop is not suffering from dementia, they showed him on the TV afterwards walking, talking, and smiling. In addition, it is typical in VA to be held indefinitely if your are unable to stand trial, as VA has no insanity defense.

The bulk of the population is wholly absorbed in bread and circuses. Consider this, those distractions are produced by the companies that are pushing these style of laws. Any politician worth his salt knows that the movie/TV/music industries are not only good sources of funds, but also allow him to have more power as their product distracts the populace. Conversely the big media companies have a multi-fold interest in the situation. They of course want the revenue, that is their primary reason of existence, it is what a company does in a capitalist society. In addition, they have a vested interested in maintaining their hold on entertainment as it is their 'bread-and-circuses' that allow the feedback loop to the politicians to work.
To witness CP violation.... The accepted theory...allows for a low level of CP violation... So researchers have been trying to find cases in which CP violation is higher.

I could not have said it much better, except to add the cynical proposition that one of the reasons we have not transitioned to a society where self-sufficiency is option is not just because we do not see the results of automation around us, but those that do have a vested interest in keeping all the gains they can (read corporations and the '1%'), even with a smaller and/or cheaper workforce instead of redistributing that wealth. That redistribution of wealth is a 'socialist thing' however and frowned upon in by too many, and to be honest may not be the appropriate solution to these problems. We have talked about how industrialized nations move from a manufacturing economy to a service economy, but what comes after that?
Those brewers of a century ago kept jobs in the area for a long time. As did your example of auto. IT is nothing but emerging tech and is still going. Yes as things get more mainstream, they get outsourced and marginalized, but if you are in the field you should be able to see what is coming down the pike and prepare for it much of the time. You act as if emerging tech jobs get yanked out from under people in a short amount of time. My view is that they do not, but people do become complacent and not see the changes coming.
