Can you name one corp. depends their life on Microsoft has not been fucked by Microsoft in the end? How may companies had to choke up unfair deals where they had no choice(ref. anti-trust cases).
Come on, a corp. has to find its own way of existance, not lean on another corps.
"I am no longer with Hewlett-Packard. If your company would like to use my expertise in forming an Open Source policy and processes, or operating a relationship with the Open Source developer community, please contact me."
That's funny, but you guys are way too paranoid. Microsoft always hires people who has absolutely no experience in their products. I know a dude actually told them he only has UNIX experience during the interview and he was hired for $77000 per an.
In my opinion they're concerned. XBox is kinda a pilot for future DRM implementation. In fact they could really gain experience from XBox Linux Project to improve DRM...
Caches can be removed, the question is whether Google would agree to:
1) Remove the caches containing stuffs sensitive to China Government, even though the requester is the China Government itself not the owners(citizens)?
2) Remove those usenet archives which contain sensitive matter as well?
Unless Google spams another company in China which contain exactly the same database as the original Google but without the stuffs China Government doesn't like, otherwise there's very little chance Google would contain to exist there.
There's no source, no reference; just a wild rumors from an anonymous coward. I don't believe/. editors would down to spreading FUD for a few extra hits.
In China there are some search engines like Yam which is google based and use google's queries. Even if you haven't heard of Yam, you might have heard of a China based search engine company suing Yahoo for stealing queries. Yam is more popular than Google here.
If they block Google they might have to block Yam as well, which would then be a real chaos.:)
However, the implication is that for every device sold with that api in it would be charged for $0.75. That's something SUN wouldn't put up with.
I'm absolutely sure Thompson would do his best to make a deal with SUN. However, SUN is a company like to do his own way. I'm not a SUN hater, in fact if their way is good it'd definitely benefitial to the industry, like this time.
Everyone knows that the e is dead and i is in... this year's buzzword is iTerrorist.
A couple of years ago they were called Cyber Terrorists, and I think a decade ago they were called Digital Terrorists. Damn it, do these guys has a standard?

It's very depending on the market. They can do that in the market where there are fewer compeition, but it's definitely not the case here. 74% of the population(last year) has at least one cellphone(compare to...24% in US?).
I remember a big brand made a phone that could only use its battery, but they discontinue making this immediately after a huge drop in sale. We aren't really care whether we could buy some cheaper battery, but we don't want to buy something that would make us look stupid among friends. "Hey is that the phone which you can only use its own battery? Bwhahah...."
but we have laws to ensure fair competition so that even the biggest telco cannot say no when the owner of the house switch to their competitors. Even the telco own the physical network implementation of that house, they must let their competitors share with it at a rate.
It's because we always think that networks system is like sewage system which can be owned by private sectors but must be regulated by Government for the best of the public interest.
I thought US has similar laws on fair competitions?
HMM... as if script kiddies don't have it easy enough, lets put a link to a 'crash' script on the front page of slashdot... Do the editors on slashdot ever think before they post links?
You are absolutely right!/. editors are bastards! Do they understand kids nowaday?! Give them knives they'll kill; give them games they'll not go to school; give them money they'll spend on drugs. Do they ever think of the children? Do they really want our kids sending us back to dark age with these tool?! I want my kids become a MCSE, not some kind of script kiddies!

I just need it in the security audit meeting this afternoon.
One working tool worths a thousand words. We might have to find our way to prove the validity of a security alert if we are not given a tool nevertheless. Now it helps saving lots of man hours, and helps to protect our company from security hazard at early stage.
So you think IT secuirty's jobs is just repeating security updates/news/alerts? We'd be happy to get that $70,000+ salary for doing that.
You really made a good analogy. No matter what underwear I wear I'll have sex the same way; but if I change my sex I'll have to learn a whole new set of body positions and probably need to learn a couple of new oral technique I wouldn't be able to do before....
I don't understand...is it morally better to waste your shareholders money just waiting and seeing the cash burn, or realize your business model was a failure, and spend money elsewhere?
Curiosly enough, the shareholders original invested in this company actually happy to see its change in business model(become an investment holdings) and reflect in the stock price.
