And of course, because any aspect of US monitoring of climate is going to be defunded, for the next five to ten years the virginal unwashed basement dwellers and all the angry Rust Belters can continue to pretend that a lack of solid action on CO2 emissions isn't going to cause any problems whatsoever.
That might hold water if it wasn't for the fact that both China and India are increasing CO2 emissions while the rest of the world is decreasing their's. If the United States had Zero Emissions it would make no difference on a Global Scale.
Mostly Implements connect to a drawbar to be pull with and the hydraulics through standardized connectors. The show stopper is usually having enough power, Farmers usually connect 2 or 3 different impliments together to till a field in one pass for fuel and time efficiency. High end tractors will have the transmissions shifting and engine fuel management all connected and even GPS to assist with steering so the tractor doesn't pass over ground all ready worked or miss pieces.
How proprietary, what most think if a tractor is 25-100 Hp , everybody and there brother sells one $10.000-50,000), what most people think of as a big tractor is 100-175 Hp range $100,000-175,000 and they numerous manufactures, what a Farmer thinks of as a big tractor is 450-642Hp and is in the neighborhood of a $1/2 million, there 2 manufactures.
The high end tractors they are really talking about are only available from 2 manufacturers. Modern Farmers are going to pull a chisel point plow, Disk Rippers, Clump busters and a cultipacker 60 feet wide in one pass over 5,000 acres, with a tractor that has 500 drawbar HP; next day pull a planter 120 feet wide.
The 9RX will be available in four models from 470 to 620 hp. These models are powered by the John Deere PowerTech PSS 13.5-liter engine and the Cummins QSX15 engine.... The tractors weigh in at 60,000 pounds and come ballasted and ready to work. The smallest 9RX - the 9470RX - starts at $497,645 and the largest four-track - the 9620RX - comes in at $574,786. John Deere 9RX
Every aspect of the engine and transmission is computer controlled in high end tractors. The biggest reason this is an issue is because farmers are often working with windows of opportunity of days, a few hours can be the difference between getting a crop in the ground before it rains or having to wait for a couple weeks. These guys are spending a half a million dollars for a machine that might only get a 100 hours on the clock each year, waiting for an authorized tech for an hour cost $5,000.00 in lost usage.
Technically unless it's gold or silver coin, it's all made up bullshit; money is only valuable because you can convert it to a desired goods or service at a future date. Even gold or silver coin's value is more dependant on conversion to a desired goods or service at a future date than it's innate value.
It's not like the average person on the street is going to bother learning Linux.
So how is that different from average person on the street is not going to bother learning Windows? Most people only use the computer for web browsing and Firefox is Firefox, for the minority that do more LibreOffice is interchangable with Office for everybody except a minority of powerusers and for minscule number that don't use web-based email Kmail will work as well as outlook. Kubuntu is pretty much works automagically, even more than Windows.
I'd be happier if the software on my computer would check for and download updates during my mostly unused bonus time, when it's convenient for me, rather than when it's convenient for Microsoft during my anytime data. Of course required to keep Windows running smoothly. probably started out meaning required to keep Windows from turning your computer into a brick, but marketing will interpret that as "anytime we want to install more effective spyware or telemetery".
Only the catchy name is new. It is more like an Anonymous, than an illuminati; more a herd of cats than a hierarchy. Vonegut wrote about it in "Catch 22".
It's not hugely hard, all of the code is out there, just graft the raid-5 code onto XtreemFS, throw some money there way and they may even do it for you.
Now this is different, but what if birds don't like to feed on the GMO mosquitoes, or fish don't like their larvae?
No Problem, we'll just let another 429 000 die horrible, painful death from malaria this year, They are mostly brown and black people anyway, nothing compared to a few bird deaths.
The Villages don't have approval power, the Government doesn't, but the researchers have extended the villages veto power as a courtesy; the villagers being the ones who'll have to live with the results good or ill. Many places in Africa have complex parallel power structures, our concept of country is rather foreign to Africans and usually ignored once the military moves on.
SVO, Straight Vegetable Oil will run in a petro diesel, but to run well you need to change to special injectors, run at higher injection pressure, use stronger glow-plugs and pre-heating the fuel is helpful. None of that is a show-stopper for a stationary engine. Most modern farm equipment uses diesel fuel, so the farm has an existing diesel infrastructure. It might make more sense to convert to propane than SVO.
It's more about a Government's green agenda having unanticipated consequences. I'm hearing about Middle-class Canadians in Ontario with Hydro bills 2 years in arrears, it's less expensive to buy Ontario electricity in New York and Michigan than it is in Ontario.
Solar is not going to provide the energy requirements to operate a modern agricultural irrigation system, the real problem is "Green Subsidies" to promote excess wind turbines has resulted in far dirtier energy sources being less expensive and more reliable.
The encryption is secure over the network, but they are able to intercept it on the hardware before it's encrypted and after it's decrypted on the way to the display; at least they are if the leaked documents are accurate.
Was it the "Russians"? So the "Russians" hack Hillary, "Russians" hack Trump, "Russians" hack the RNC, "Russians" hack DNC; Anyone else seeing a pattern here? No doubt the real Russians would have enjoyed those hacks, but the risk to benefit ratios are pretty high. Now if the CIA did all or most of that and made it look like the "Russians" that would be another kettle of fish.
It maybe the CIA is channeling the ghost of J. Edgar Hoover and nobody realised it.
At least Basic didn't have calculated gotos. 'Goto linenumber' where linenumber is an int. I've seen it _used_ in FORTRAN.
Like a pointer, only much uglier.
Ah yes the good ol' days when we walked to school, bare-footed in the snow , up hill both ways; you youngsters will never know the struggle! FORTRAN, Lisp, RPG II, COBOL and even IBM 360 Assembler!

Mahindra has a nice looking 105Hp model for $63,440, but if you need something in the 642Hp range at $642,000, you're not going to find it there.

Your assuming there isn't a 4G or 3G chip in the bloody thing, that calls home with telemetery and to get "updates" periodically.
