With the new DOCSIS 2.0 standard cable modems will be significantly faster (as pointed out in this CNN article). But how long will it take the local cable company to adopt it.
Sounds to me like Microsoft is now just picking the best attributes from current and past OSes. A dash of Be, a hair of ReiserFS, maybe a little OSX to brighten things up.
You are acting like the entire Linux communitys only purpose is to bring down Microsoft "If a large number of ex-Windows users get won over by AOL/RedHat Linux, have we really lost?
What is there to lose in the first place, I think Linux is a great open source and free alternative to the Windows monopoly, it gives me full control over my environment, and thats what I like about it. Windows to me has become alot like AOL, and trying to take away control from the user/subscriber. Personally I think that if Red Hat is bought out by AOL, I hope they make an AOL Linux hybrid, competition is good in any form.
New message boards of with people saying AOL doesn't work anymore, nothing works. Why "Well I just deleted this vmlinux file, it didn't seem to be doing anything."
This is actually an excellent marketing idea, if every gaming company would simply have a few binary files that are free to download to play the retail Windows version of games on Linux. Now if only more compainer would do this i.e, Blizzard
Just shows how some slick HTML-monkey told the US Olympic sponsors about how interactive their site will be and sold them on it, it will take people more time to download all the plugins then to actually review the whole site.
Thats partially true, I had a buddy when we were going through technical training at Kessler AFB, MS who admitted to smoking pot in the past, and he got a TS, but his recruiter got busted becasue he didin't report that on his in processing paperwork.
Stay in!!!! Don't seperate!!!! Unless you have a sure thing, and I have found out there is never a sure thing. The TS doesn't get you everything you want, even as an Air Force programmer with a TS.
Indeed there is more, if you choose to retire from the military in 20 or so years, say you go in as an officer, and retire at 0-5 which is feasible in 20, you would have a nice fat retirement check.
Then if you wanted goin the ranks of government service, and in another 10 years you can retire again, since your 20 years military service count to your GS retirement.
4 pages!!! When applying for my clearance I had about thirty pages to fill out, not to mention the countless interviews I had to have. I think they give a Secret clearance to just about anyone who applies for one (with sponsorship). But Top Secret, and above takes almost two years now because of the huge backlog that they are currently under.
I have been pimping myself out since August trying to get work, my TS clearance doesn't do me any good, no one in the Colorado Springs area is hiring. At least in the way that some are suggesting.
"As was pointed out in the article, many contractors will hire someone with a clearance and no experience because training them takes less time than clearing them does. A top secret clearance is a real meal ticket."
If this is the case, how come I am having to get all these minimum wage jobs doing deliveries, or whatever to make sure my wife and I have a place to live.
I totally agree, going back to an earlier slashdot article about the CMM, and code coming in on time, and under budget. Only two organizations have a level 5 rating, one is NASA, and the other is the ALC out of Ogden, which just so happens to be an Air Force coding shop (among other things).
Unfortunately I left the Air Force at a very bad time, I figured that with my skills, and my Top Secret clearance that I would have no trouble finding a new job.
Same thing with my father he retired from the Air Force, with a Masters, and a clearance, and it took him almost six months to get a job back with the government.
Government jobs are not the easiest to get, and a clearance does not guarantee employment.
Deep indeed, but black holes aren't the only celestial bodies that affect light, any large star or planet can bend light toward it. Thus making stars appear in different regions of the sky then they actually are.
The thing about QA is that they have to be knowledgeable about what they are going over, when QA would do a code review, I could put anything in the code I wanted and they wouldn't have a clue "PRINT "QA are a bunch of goons". It was embarassing how lacking these guys were.
Thats not the way CMM works, with a structured process you get things right the first time. I admit it is a huge pain in the butt. But it certainly increased our productivity, and scheduled releases. I beleive that there are only 2 Level 5 organizations in the US, NASA, and the ALC(Air Logistics Center?, at Ogden). And at level 5 they don't even need a testing organization to release mission critical applications.
In my last shop we spent a lot of our time working on acheiving CMM level 2, which was harder then it sounds for a bunch of hackers. As we were approaching our level 2 goal, Carnegie Mellon offered us their Personal Software Process class. It ties in closly with the rules and guidelines set by the CMM, but it focuses on your own abilities. By keeping metrics on time spent coding or time spent documenting you can learn the rates at which you are able to work, and can apply that to estimates with reasonable accuracy.
Not to mention that Windows Advanced Server runs in the thousands of dollars, while Suse 7.3 Pro runs something like 60 dollars. We don't need no stinking client liscenses.....

Well being as small as it is, you could always put it in your refrigerator, right next to the mayo and pickle relish!

"General Problems with Intel CPU's"
Thats pretty funny considering that there are Intel Processors in the actual XBox.
Why emulate it when all it does is play PC games anyway. Wait a few months and you will be able to get all the games for X-Box on your PC.
Oh I long for the days when XML will be used for all file formats, and the universe will be whole........
