Without anti-trust law, such reasonable and acceptable behaviour would have resulted in a situation where every time you pick up a phone AT&T billed you, and every time you got a tank of gas you would have to pay Standard Oil. At monopoly prices of course. That doesn't sound very good to me. Take a look at http://www.econ.umn.edu/~matheson/antitrust.html for some more examples. In fact, in most of the cases that I read the companies in question were acquitted for a number of reasons, and it was very clear that the presiding judges had put a lot of thought into their decision. It's comforting that someone is at least *trying* to look out for my best interests.
As far as I can tell that's the only thing anyone at MS has actually done wrong ("wrong" here means illegal or immoral, not the usual "isn't nice to competitors" definition so popular here).
Wait a second. Weren't they found to be in violation of anti-trust LAWS? Sounds illegal to me.
Contrary to prevailing/. belief, Microsoft is no exception. If they fall asleep at the wheel, they *will* have their asses handed to them by a smaller competitor, antitrust or no.
I'm not so sure that I agree. I'm sure we all remember OS/2 Warp 3. It had all the features of Windows 95, including the ability to run 3.1 apps, and hit the market months before. They had the big media blitz, and were never heard from again.
The phone company in Clear Lake, has upgraded their infrastructure to make this possible. I believe that there's fiber to within 1000 ft. of every home, and maybe even new copper after that.
I don't think that people give grandmas enough credit. We gave my grandma a WebTV last Christmas, and all of the technophobes in the family were worried that she'd never figure it out. Now, I get at least an e-mail a week from her. I think she might be playing bridge on Iwon, not sure though. My point is that anyone who wants to can figure out how to use any interface. Those that don't want to learn it probably won't put in the effort to learn *any* interface.
About the packing up. Those new cappuccino boxes look like the ideal box for packing up do go to a lan shindig. VGA, RCA, and s-video outputs, and it supports socket 370 procs passing the 1GHz mark.
Water is considered a requirement for life because so many chemical reactions occur in aqueous solutions. The main assumption is that for life you need chemical reactions. I also believe that oxygen is considered a good indicator because oxygen gas is hard to keep around; it's always getting tied up with other chemicals.
The spot will appear to move faster than light, but it is important to note that the photons comprising the beam are moving at the speed of light. Once free of the laser, the photons will continue in a straight line forever. Changing the direction of the laser will not change the direction that the photons are travelling. You are describing a giant laser space whip.
Yeah I totally agree, a game's absolutly no fun without gore. Anyone else looking forward to the release of Bloody Tits Shooter Man? I hear it has fantastic graphics with little or no storyline at all.
The only problem with the "For Dummies" books is that they are tailored for one version of any particular subject without really explaining the fundamentals of what's happening. In a couple of years they will be out of date, and you'll have to buy a new set.
I'm not really sure, but it seems to me that 96khz is still digital. The parent was about the digital vs. analog debate. What we really need is a new analog medium that doesn't degrade like vinyl.
But... it is highly unlikely that they would have developed any parasitic behaviours as there are no (as far as we know) higher life-forms on mars. There are millions of species of bacteria here on earth that don't have any adverse effects on multi-cellular life. They just float around metabolizing arganic materials.
"This settlement will not impact our customers or current products in any way and will allow us to focus our time and resources on what we do best: developing great software."
It seems to me that this does in fact impact Microsoft customers, and I'm not even going to touch the "great software" part.
Sure, it never gets to zero, but how long does it take to get below the background radiation that we all deal with every day, or the little bit of radioactive material in smoke detectors?

I *do* se digital cable over twisted pair. Every time I visit my parents in Clear Lake.
whoo!

Not to mention the other markets HP excells in. Namely, o-scopes, logic analyzers, etc.. HP test equipment rocks.

Odds of a planet having intelligent life: 1/9
Total odds of intelligent life: 1/9 = 1.11e-1
I welcome any criticisms you may have.
Damn dirty apes!

I stand corrected.
Yeah, I'm just crazy enought to triple check.

Not to mention that breach of contract is a civil matter, not a criminal one. People don't go to jail for that kind of thing.
I would personnaly avoid books dealing strictly with Linux. A good base of *nix books would yield the highest bang/buck ratio.

Just because it's not as organized as, say the 700 club, doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.

Hey, there's nothing funny about student government buddy. Those people had at least four or five of their closest friends vote for them.

If you ain't drinkin' at the L&F you must be some kind of wussy.
