Good luck trying to convince people that they should not have the freedom to drive a car, to take the bus, or to transport goods in trucks because it endangers your life.

  4. If there was a new vote now, its obvious Macron would have absolutely no chance of being elected. This means that France is now ruled by someone who does not represent the will of its population. This is not democracy, this is dictatorship and only the enemies of France would support dictatorship.

Of course, it is sad that people have to use violence to force an elected president to listen to them (or to resign), but don't blame the people for that. Blame Macron. He is the one who forces people to use violence.

FTFY /. is just a reflection of the Western world, a world which is now extremely divided between "conservatives" and "progressives", between people who base justice on merit and those who base justice on equality, between people who value principles and those who value feelings, between people who believe allowing people to speak is the best chance for peace and those who believe forbidding "hate speech" is the only way to achieve peace, between people who believe individuals should help society and people who believe society should help individuals... In short, Western societies are now divided between masculinity and femininity.

In a way, it always was, but in the past both sides respected each other. Now, they just hate each other, they both think the other is morally disgusting, and no one wants to compromise.

Welcome to the new world, welcome to the new Slashdot. Get used to it, because it will get worse.

This "study" is obvious fake news. The methodology is a complete joke. Yet, a lot of people will believe it for no other reason that it creates a fantasy where "the others" are dumb and they are the ones intelligent.

I'm French. I had to do a mandatory military service. The minimum was 10 months, but in my case, I did two years. The regular "pay" for a conscript was 531F a month (about $80 per month). This was given to conscripts so they could buy hygiene products (soap, toilet paper, razors, etc.), since those were not supplied by the army. Of course, only men were required to do a military service. Women could choose to do it if they wanted to, but they were not required to do anything. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. In all Western societies, men have it a lot worse than women.

  10. Calling this "civil war" is indeed ridiculous, but don't think that those who downvoted this video are "kids". It may surprise you, but a lot of adults do care about politics. 13. As someone who lives in Canada, I'd like to apologize for Canada helping the US to enforce its imperialistic policies. 24. How about you look at real data instead of simply imagining what you want to believe?

If I look at the report from Aida (Asylum Information Database) from 2017, the country with the greatest percentage of Syrian refugees is Germany, with 50,422 applicants out of a total of 222,683, that is 22.6% were from Syria.

On the other hand, for a country like France, there were only 3,249 Syrian refugees out of 100,412 applicants, that is only 3.2%. Here's the breakdown of the top 10 countries for France :

    Albania : 7,630
    Afghanistan : 5,987
    Haiti : 4,934
    Sudan : 4,486
    Guinea : 3,780
    Syria : 3,249
    Ivory Coast : 3,243
    DRC : 2,941
    Algeria : 2,456
    Bangladesh : 2,410

There are even fewer Syrian refugees in Italy. Out of a total of 130,119 applicants, only 2,270 were from Syria, that is 1.7%. The top 10 countries of origin of those refugees were (in order) : Nigeria, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Gambia, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Mali, Ghana, and Eritrea.

Sure, all those countries are shit holes, and those people dream of living the good life. However, you have to realize that a country is only the sum of its population. In reality, those "refugees" are only trying to flee themselves, and that's something which is impossible.

The sad reality is most of those people are unable to learn the necessary skills to be able to find work in a developed country. Worse, a lot of them don't want to do the hard work that we do. They come to the West with the idea of living the good life, not with the idea to work hard.

  25. The migrant crisis in Europe is not caused by armed conflicts. The vast majority of migrants come from stable African country where there is no conflict. The real refugees from the Syrian conflict stay in Turkey. That's why there are so few women and children coming in Western Europe. It's young men who see an opportunity for free money and who are willing to take on the journey for this free money.

That's exactly what will happen in California. Give free stuff, and you can be sure lots of people from outside of California will come to get it. Give free stuff and the only result will be more homeless people in California asking for more free stuff. And the more you will give, the more they will come.
