I hope that that it isn't, well maybe I do;) (Just to see it crash and burn) that is like Windows 95, that is to say, just 32bit code hacked to run on a 64bit processor. Anyone remember Windows 95, just 16bit dos with a 32bit menu?
A story about romance. The tale of two clones on a sexual journey to Minsk. But things get a little "hairy" on the way when they have a strange "encounter" after they find themselves in the form of other clones. Pretty soon, all of the clones find themselves in front of a being of unlimited sexual powers, known only as, "the emperor". Needless to say, things get a little TIEd up from there. The opposers to the sex empire, composed mostly of clones, the abstendi, launch a last ditch effort to destroy the largest swingers club ever: the SexStar. The SexStar is capable of having sex with every living thing a planet all at the same time. Will sex be free for all? Or will the valiant abstendi prevail and sex banned forever? See "Episode II: Attack of the Clones" in theaters everywhere August 69th
Aren't toshiba's the ones that "phone home" to toshiba? There was disscussion on it here.
Whatever OS you choose to run, I would wipe the hard drive clean and start over first:)
It seems to me that there is always a kind of tier structure in pricing of cpus. There always seems to be a mark where the prices drops significantly once you hit it. For example see here. The most expensive Athlon at this writing is a 1.4GHz for $153, but a 1GHz is $77, go down to the Duron 900MHz and your at $52. Those seem to be the top of their "tiers", or the points at which you can get the most cpu for your dollar.
So basically, a 1.4GHz will only be a few dollars more than the next step down, and so on, until you hit the next tier where it drops significantly.
I agree. I also believe that most companies patent something with plans of making it ubiquitous to the whole world. Problem is, if it is to become the defacto standard, you have to have competition, or some type of an open architecture to build from, otherwise, you are a monopoly and thus your innovation is retarted by it's own success.
I don't have much need for pinging, my home network rarely goes down, and I don't use telnet, I use SSH instead - I don't like broadcasting passwords to the whole world.:)
Besides, most normal joeblow users don't need to ping anything, much less telnet just sysadmins and people like us:)
1)For linux to be mainstream, you shouldn't *need* to know how to use the console like an expert. Look at windows 2000, the command prompt is all but needed, you can do anything you want inside the GUI and all at a lot less hassle.
2)Anyone coming from a networked (read corporate) enviroment will know that not everyone can do everything, even sometimes on your own computer, otherwise, yes it might be hard to understand.
3)funny, when a program crashes in windows, most people say stupid windows instead of stupid program, funny
4)No one knows their hardware, only technical people, no one else cares as long as it is fast, and does what they want
5)You can do the same on windows, but once he runs into something he can't do, where does he turn? There are more windows experts that he probably know as opposed to linux.
6)Agreed, asumming you have done it yourself
7)Why should it take 2 hours to get a cdburner working? no matter what kind?;)
I'm not a supporter of Microsoft by any means, but I think linux still has a long way to go before it can put up a serious threat to windows in the desktop enviroment. It has already been proven over and over that linux is vastly superior in the aspect of a server.
Even if Ximian makes a better product, adoption will be slow. For example, Sun's StarOffice has been free a while now, but I have only heard of one company that has deployed it as the standard office suite, meanwhile Microsoft can't sell Office fast enough. And if those companies did make Linux/StarOffice standard, they would have to teach everyone but the techies how to use it, which could quite possibly cost more than just buying the Mircosoft solution. It seems to me be that being computer literate is more closely equated to "Microsoft Literate". Although, if Linux was more widely adopted for mainstream use, Linux coders would probably be able to name their salary for developing internal company apps:)

I like the idea of a graphical boot screen. Some like the standard text, as it is now. I like what Mandrake 8.0 has, plain old text, or you can have a static graphic similiar to Windows 95 etc, or you can also have a graphic one with icons across the screen that light up when the coresponding program/service is starting, which I think is the best of both worlds. Perhaps there should be a combination of these standardized?
I don't see how you could power it with out another pci bus to plug it into. I would guess anything you could build from it would be similar to a rackmount server, not the same processing power though:)
I think we should FedEx all the VHS copies of Episode I to George Lucas's house and ask for a free DVD of it, since we already own the license to watch it. Or he should just put DeCSS on the disc for easy copying.
I can't wait for an exercise video with supermodels working out with these! You could visit their sites as they are working up a sweat! They more hits they get, the faster they would have to... pump!

"...and said, simply, 'Grant rocks.'" That's funny, I always thought Cleaveland Rocks...

So what do you do in the summer time? 100+ degree weather is a little hot for a jacket :)
No wonder my dsl is so slow tonight! :)

Amen Father!, I have heard of apt-get forever, but I have used Mandrake since 7.0 and have never heard of urpmi...

What happens when they make your cds "rip-proof"? See Here.
I don't know about any of you, but I have loads of chemicals sitting around. I always wondered why it glows green sometimes. Maybe I can apply this?
