    Oh please.

How could anyone prove that the bible contains falsehoods? We don't have pictures, or video evidence. No Christian will accept that acts within the bible are impossible because they have a different word for impossible acts. They call them miracles.

So why was God so interested in the world back then when Angels came down and kicked ass, turned cities to salt, dropped plagues - and now God doesn't seem to give a shit about what's going on? Is God dead? Doesn't care anymore? Trying to cut back on the old long distance plan? Or perhaps some of that stuff in the bible was overstated or didn't happen? We'll never know because that's what faith is for. Don't question - believe. Or the God of mercy and love will send your sorry ass to roast in hell....

In a world where more people are dying in wars than used to exist in 'biblical times', you'd figure God would be down here kicking Hitler's ass or dropping holy H-bombs on irreligious armies.

Fact: A lot of the religion of Christianity was stolen from earlier religions - based on the very religions they called pagan. Do some research. If your book is valid, might not the other history books be valid too? If God created the world - he must have been some pissed that it took civilized humans thousands of years to even start his religion....pretty relaxed about that shit, hey?

I am sure that this will be modded down but it makes me angry when people toss out 'proofs' based on faith. 'Prove God doesn't exist.' - do you understand logic? Prove that God does exist.

Now back to your regularly scheduled argument about MS/LINUX.

Their government is stable and they have as much right to run their country as the US does. If the people rise up and topple their government - fine - but that could just as easily have happened in the US after the 2000 elections. Stop judging Iran based on the news you see and think about that for a while. Oh - one other note - the Iranians are 'aryans' or 'persians', not arabs.

China is not yet that enemy, and in fact no one is. I don't live in the US and am not exactly a fan of their recent activity - but it's a plain fact that they spend more than anyone and still enjoy technical advantages in many areas.

China spends far less but their money does go a lot further, due to lower working wages, less red tape, potentially less corruption and graft (it still exists but the death penalty reduces the behaviour to those in favour with the government). Their airforce is largely obsolete and their navy isn't really up to going toe to toe with the US either BUT:

They are cleverly spending in other areas. Develop lasers to blind satellites and perhaps even destroy them? That negates some of the US technical advantage....and their missile program is pretty damned impressive, at least for short to mid-range. Hell they did invent rocket technology. Their reach for the stars will likely reap for them the same technical leap it did for the USA.

Even Iran could give the US fits due to a large, dedicated ground force, excellent missiles and high-speed torpedoes....too bad the US doesn't have the stealth destroyer in production yet because aircraft carriers and the current generation of US cruisers and destroyers show up just fine on radar and if you see it, you can kill it.

So - the news is: The US still has the advantage, but are going to start losing it to smaller countries who focus on specific 'asymmetric' development to nullify the overall advantages.

    Humanity will survive.

As different as things look today as they did from 100 years ago, the world of the next century will be drastically different.

If population growth continues and the predicted economic rise of China and India also continue then the standard of living for most of the rest of the world will decline. We will not be able to continue our lifestyles as we have today.

Meat will be a luxury for rare occasions as global warming reduces arable land and animal to human disease transmission becomes more and more frequent. In fact, meat may be entirely removed from our diet, replaced with a simulated product, or just cut back severely due to the amount of fertile land it takes to grow a cow the old fashioned way.

Oil will become scarce and pollution an order of magnitude worse because we seem to believe that profits and progress are more important than sustainable growth. This will lead to a plateau and then degradation of the life expectancy despite anything medical science can do, though there will be advances made against disease, especially cancer and possibly even heart disease and diabetes.

The rise of Pervasive Development Disorders will lead to a significant portion of our society requiring additional care and structured living conditions. Perhaps progress will be made in understanding why this problem is growing.

No more 20 minute showers, or cruising in your 8 cylinder vehicle. No more fat juicy steaks every Friday. Sadly reality TV will be replaced with something worse and advertising will be even more pervasive and hard to escape from.

North America will still be relatively wealthy if those countries adopt some protectionism and reduce oil consumption. Europe will have less luck with their affluence due to the proximity of poorer nations. South America will probably manage to make economic gains as well given their abundant natural resources providing no wars develop and these countries manage their growing organized crime. The middle east will continue it's magnificent overspending until the wells run dry and then if no work was put into sustainable infrastructure development, the region will become one of the world's poorest. The west and east both will turn their backs on them and remember them as fools. Don't take that the wrong way - they have almost 100 years of prosperity ahead of them and as long as they build on it correctly they can create a sustainable economy. But they depend too heavily on their primary export and have little else in the way of natural resources. There are a few things on the go along those lines but at present there is a huge amount of waste there too. Asia is where things are the most interesting. Russia will probably continue on more or less the same, not as powerful as it once was but still a strong nation. China, India, Korea, Japan and the other powerful members of that region will all be vying for a shrinking amount of petroleum and other natural resources and dealing with intense population pressure. If any of the larger countries suffers enough pressure, war or collapse will result.

It's going to be very interesting.

As for space - we had the momentum in the 60s and early 70s but squandered it. I think, sadly, that humanity has blown it's chance for the solar system, let alone the stars. Perhaps China can get the US back into the game but it's doubtful we'll ever colonize another planet now.

If a major epidemic or war occurs to reduce the population pressure or break the economic model that seems to be forming up, then all bets are off. And of course is a rogue comet comes along, we'll be awfully sorry we let the ball drop.

People don't want the creators/clan masters/icons of power to be human - they can't seem to handle it and I think to some extent it's ego-derived. All of the users of a website/community/mmorpg are subordinate to the admins and especially the master admin - people don't like symbols of greater power walking around, even in something so trivial as a website.

It would similar to if the Christians had their God or angels walking around taking a personal interest in their lives - they'd hate it - oh look here comes the almighty/or his agents compared to whom I am insignificant. As a symbol of their faith, fine - but a real, live symbol with things to say is a different manner.

I am not comparing Taco or the WOW admin to a God except in the facet where they are masters (or at least admins with some god-like powers) of these online communities.

In the end the mixture of a higher level of expectations (I was not allowed to become angry or take sides in disputes) and sickness with the politics of game clans drove me from my clan. The place where I put almost 2 years of hard work and a lot of my own money was no longer worth the stress. I exiled myself and never went back. It's finally clear to me why it was so hard to be with these people in real life and communicate with them as a person.
