I've seen a couple of motherboards that have had their USB electronics damaged by the new Palm USB cradle, and I could understand how the serial cradles destroy serial ports. If you open the palm cradle you'll see it is not buffered at all, so effectively you are plugging a serial device in and out. Dangerous!
Is Linux a "better," os? Better at what? It certainly wasn't better for the person trying to use the scanner.
Linux users say that the OS they support can be the next big thing. In that case help out the people who want to learn Linux, instead of writing abusive replies with numbers in the place of letters. The 15 year old so-called experts who have installed Linux and now claim to know everything about it don't help your cause.
Then there is the problem of Linux users not being prepared to pay for anything.
To the average computer user, Linux looks complicated and it's users appear as geeky trouble makers angry at the world who spend all day long on IRC forcing people offline with a script they have no understanding of.
The Kernal used by PalmOS can in fact already do multitasking and multithreading. It is effectively disabled as it serves no useful purpose on a PDA.
When will you Linux types stop dropping in buzzwords that you have no clue about?
The virtual desktop feature has been available for NT4 for quite a while as part of the NT4 Option pack. I'm using it right now. Whilst it only allows two screens, as opposed to four with Linux, it works very well with no noticable slow down.
